Mental health indicators in pharmaceutical sciences students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic changed the daily lives of university students and affected their mental health. The aim of this study was to assess the feelings and perceptions regarding the pandemic and teaching, and to identify the mental health symptoms perceived by pharmaceutical sciences students at a Brazilian public university.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with data triangulation (mixed-methods approach), conducted online with semiannual data collection from May 2020 to May 2021.

The library is open: a scoping review on queer representation in psychedelic research.

The intersection of queer identity and psychedelics has not been thoroughly explored by the research community, historically or in the present day. With growing access to legal psychedelic therapies, it is essential that queer psychedelic experiences are understood sufficiently by clinicians in order to provide the most safe and effective care possible. Psychedelics and queerness are intricately related, and there is strong interest in the use of psychedelics for healing and identity development among queer populations.

Ptosis in human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients under long-term antiretroviral treatment.

Objective: To present cases of ptosis in HIV-1 patients on long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART) and review the existing literature.

Methods: Five HIV-1-positive patients with slowly progressive bilateral ptosis underwent a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including imaging studies, neurophysiological testing, muscle biopsy, and genetic analysis. A literature review was conducted.

Palm oil is widely used in the food industry owing to its high stability and versatility. The interesterified version has been used as an alternative to oils rich in trans fatty acids. However, the health effects of these vegetable oils are not yet fully understood.

Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, often leading to complications such as malnutrition, dysphagia, and sarcopenia. We present the case of a 78-year-old male with a history of ischemic stroke and multiple comorbidities, who was underweight and weakened. Over a 10-month follow-up period, a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube was placed, and nutritional management was carried out based on biochemical and nutritional status assessments.

Correlation between liver volume drainage and clinical success after endoscopic biliary drainage of hilar malignant obstruction.

Background And Aim: Malignant hilar obstruction usually presents in advanced-stage disease with a poor prognosis. Effective biliary drainage is essential for the beginning of palliative chemotherapy. There is a debate on the amount of liver parenchyma that should be drained to achieve clinical success.

This clinical guideline was designed to serve as a hospital guide in the diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring approach to neurosyphilis, considering whether there is positivity or not for the human immunodeficiency virus. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted notifiable disease, known as the great imitator. In around 30% of cases of untreated disease, there is a persistent central nervous system infection.

Revisiting Socransky's Complexes: A Review Suggesting Updated New Bacterial Clusters (GF-MoR Complexes) for Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions.

This review aimed to identify newly discovered bacteria from individuals with periodontal/peri-implant diseases and organize them into new clusters (GF-MoR complexes) to update Socransky's complexes (1998). For methodological development, the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) strategy was used for the focus question construction: "In patients with periodontal and/or peri-implant disease, what bacteria (microorganisms) were detected through laboratory assays?" The search strategy was applied to PubMed/MEDLINE, PubMed Central, and Embase. The search key terms, combined with Boolean markers, were (1) bacteria, (2) microbiome, (3) microorganisms, (4) biofilm, (5) niche, (6) native bacteria, (7) gingivitis), (8) periodontitis, (9) peri-implant mucositis, and (10) peri-implantitis.

Stress in Family Caregivers of Children with Chronic Health Conditions: A Case-Control Study.

Objectives: This study analyzed the stress experienced by family caregivers of children with special healthcare needs and identified associated factors.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted with the "cases" being caregivers of children with chronic conditions and the "controls" being caregivers of healthy children. Recruitment was carried out via social media and complemented by snowball sampling.

Phenolic compounds found in Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) have been associated with various health benefits. Bioavailability studies indicate that the phase I and II metabolites of these phenolic compounds can be detected in human urine and plasma following EVOO consumption. To contribute to the understanding of the biological potential of these phenolic compounds and their metabolites, this study delves into the synthesis, stability, and biological activities of hydroxytyrosol (HT), tyrosol (Tyr), and homovanillic alcohol (HVA), as well as their glucuronide, sulfate, and acetylated metabolites.

Fertility after pouch surgery in women with ulcerative colitis: Is robotic surgery the key to better outcomes?

Fertility preservation is a major concern for women with ulcerative colitis who require surgical treatment. Previous studies have shown that the risk of infertility after restorative proctocolectomy is approximately four times higher. However, this risk appears to be lower in patients who undergo minimally invasive approaches, such as laparoscopic surgery.

ALDH2 is a mitochondrial key enzyme in detoxifying reactive aldehydes to less reactive forms. Studies demonstrate a potential link between ALDH2∗2 mutation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Cancer Prevalence across Vertebrates.

Cancer is pervasive across multicellular species, but what explains the differences in cancer prevalence across species? Using 16,049 necropsy records for 292 species spanning three clades of tetrapods (amphibians, sauropsids, and mammals), we found that neoplasia and malignancy prevalence increases with adult mass (contrary to Peto's paradox) and somatic mutation rate but decreases with gestation time. The relationship between adult mass and malignancy prevalence was only apparent when we controlled for gestation time. Evolution of cancer susceptibility appears to have undergone sudden shifts followed by stabilizing selection.

Background/objectives: To adapt and estimate the psychometric properties of Utrecht Questionnaire for esthetic outcome assessment in rhinoplasty (OAR) to assess concern about smile appearance and to estimate the influence of demographic characteristics on this concern in adults.

Material/methods: This was a cross-sectional observational study. Individuals aged between 18 and 40 years participated in the study.
