Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic changed the daily lives of university students and affected their mental health. The aim of this study was to assess the feelings and perceptions regarding the pandemic and teaching, and to identify the mental health symptoms perceived by pharmaceutical sciences students at a Brazilian public university.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with data triangulation (mixed-methods approach), conducted online with semiannual data collection from May 2020 to May 2021.
The intersection of queer identity and psychedelics has not been thoroughly explored by the research community, historically or in the present day. With growing access to legal psychedelic therapies, it is essential that queer psychedelic experiences are understood sufficiently by clinicians in order to provide the most safe and effective care possible. Psychedelics and queerness are intricately related, and there is strong interest in the use of psychedelics for healing and identity development among queer populations.

Methods: Five HIV-1-positive patients with slowly progressive bilateral ptosis underwent a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, including imaging studies, neurophysiological testing, muscle biopsy, and genetic analysis. A literature review was conducted.
Sjogren's disease, well-described in people, is rarely identified in veterinary species. In people, Sjogren's disease is one of the most common systemic autoimmune disorders with an incidence of 0.5% in the female population.

Aims: To record the endoscopic treatment of mesh that has migrated into the gastric lumen after surgical treatment of hiatal hernia.
Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, often leading to complications such as malnutrition, dysphagia, and sarcopenia. We present the case of a 78-year-old male with a history of ischemic stroke and multiple comorbidities, who was underweight and weakened. Over a 10-month follow-up period, a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube was placed, and nutritional management was carried out based on biochemical and nutritional status assessments.

Effective biliary drainage is essential for the beginning of palliative chemotherapy. There is a debate on the amount of liver parenchyma that should be drained to achieve clinical success.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted notifiable disease, known as the great imitator. In around 30% of cases of untreated disease, there is a persistent central nervous system infection.

For methodological development, the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) strategy was used for the focus question construction: "In patients with periodontal and/or peri-implant disease, what bacteria (microorganisms) were detected through laboratory assays?" The search strategy was applied to PubMed/MEDLINE, PubMed Central, and Embase. The search key terms, combined with Boolean markers, were (1) bacteria, (2) microbiome, (3) microorganisms, (4) biofilm, (5) niche, (6) native bacteria, (7) gingivitis), (8) periodontitis, (9) peri-implant mucositis, and (10) peri-implantitis.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted with the "cases" being caregivers of children with chronic conditions and the "controls" being caregivers of healthy children. Recruitment was carried out via social media and complemented by snowball sampling.
Cellular processes are dynamic and often oscillatory, requiring precise coordination for optimal cell function. How distinct oscillatory processes can couple within a single cell remains an open question. Here, we use the cyanobacterial circadian clock as a model system to explore the coupling of oscillatory and pulsatile gene circuits.

The development of fast, accurate, and accessible diagnostic methods is essential in controlling the disease and mitigating its impacts. In this context, electrochemical biosensors present themselves as promising tools for the efficient monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Bioavailability studies indicate that the phase I and II metabolites of these phenolic compounds can be detected in human urine and plasma following EVOO consumption. To contribute to the understanding of the biological potential of these phenolic compounds and their metabolites, this study delves into the synthesis, stability, and biological activities of hydroxytyrosol (HT), tyrosol (Tyr), and homovanillic alcohol (HVA), as well as their glucuronide, sulfate, and acetylated metabolites.

Previous studies have shown that the risk of infertility after restorative proctocolectomy is approximately four times higher. However, this risk appears to be lower in patients who undergo minimally invasive approaches, such as laparoscopic surgery.

ALDH2 is a mitochondrial key enzyme in detoxifying reactive aldehydes to less reactive forms. Studies demonstrate a potential link between ALDH2∗2 mutation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Using 16,049 necropsy records for 292 species spanning three clades of tetrapods (amphibians, sauropsids, and mammals), we found that neoplasia and malignancy prevalence increases with adult mass (contrary to Peto's paradox) and somatic mutation rate but decreases with gestation time. The relationship between adult mass and malignancy prevalence was only apparent when we controlled for gestation time. Evolution of cancer susceptibility appears to have undergone sudden shifts followed by stabilizing selection.
