Lymphangioma is a developmental anomaly of the lymphatic system that is infrequent in children and rare in adults. The clinical diagnosis is easy and imaging techniques are useful for determining its extension. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice.

Tumoral DNA content was studied by flow cytometry and PCR amplification of c-erbB1 in tissue samples from 31 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Eighteen cases (58%) were aneuploid and 13 (42%) were diploid. Aneuploidy correlated with pharyngeal site and poorly differentiated tumors, but not with clinical stage or metastases.

Preinvasive laryngeal lesions progress to infiltrating carcinoma in 7-15% of cases. Clinical manifestations and histological findings are not reliably predictive of progression. Quantitative cytometry improves predictive effectiveness, but is not a routine procedure.

Introduction And Objectives: The underlying mechanism of syncope induced by head-up tilt test is still incompletely understood. It has been proposed a sudden increase in parasympathetic's activity induced by the excessive activation of the cardiac mechanoreceptors. The aim of our study was to evaluate the clinical, electrocardiographic and hemodynamic responses to head-up tilt test before and after treatment with transdermal Scopolamine (anticholinergic agent).

Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the reliability of early exercise test to detect multivessel disease in survivors of an uncomplicated first anterior Q-wave myocardial infarction.

Methods: Among 100 consecutive patients 64 (aged 55 +/- 10 years) were included in the study. Thirty-four patients (53.

Background: The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility of using the recording of discrete electrical potentials to guide radiofrequency catheter ablation of atriofascicular accessory pathways with Mahaim-like properties.

Methods And Results: Four patients (3 females, 1 male) who fulfilled criteria for having atriofascicular accessory pathways with Mahaim-like properties and preexcited reciprocating tachycardia underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation. The mean age was 35 years (range 27-47).

We studied retrospectively 107 cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis diagnosed during a period lasting from 1988 to 1992 in a General Hospital (asistencial area of 185,000 population). These cases represent 35.7% from the overall tuberculosis diagnosed in the same period of time and same attendance centre, with an mean rate of 11.

Forty-two survivors of a first transmural, noncomplicated myocardial infarction underwent mitral flow pulsed-Doppler studies both at predischarge time and 1 year later, in order to assess the long-term evolution of diastolic parameters in the absence of reinfarction or revascularization procedures. Results showed a decrease of mean value of E wave peak velocity (59.6 +/- 14 cm/sec vs 46.

This study is a descriptive analysis of the evolution of a Community Mental Health Service attendance request. Three significant periods in the history of this centre are selected: its creation, a consolidation stage and, finally another period in which the Mental Health Service constitution has been unified, this period coincides with the Neuropsychiatry figure disappearance. Socio-demographics and clinic diagnostic variables are analyzed so the authors can elaborate the characteristic user profile in the periods studied.

Seventy consecutive patients with recurrent unexplained syncope were evaluated by use of an up-right tilt-table test for 45 minutes (with or without an infusion of isoproterenol) in an attempt to reproduce symptoms. There were 42 males and 28 females with a mean age of 49 +/- 20 years (range 7-86), and with a mean symptoms duration of 35.2 +/- 16 months.

300 cases admitted in a hospital Emergency Unit are studied, corresponding to two weeks of June 1989, with the aim to know user's characteristics and pathology shown. Through a survey addressed to the patient, or person accompanying him/her, it is intended to know the reasons which motivated the election of this type of service. Predominant pathology is the one which groups lesions and adverse effects (52%) and are younger age groups the ones who consult more frequently.

The purpose of this study is to determine the importance of two-dimensional echocardiography performed soon after admission to the coronary care unit to provide useful information concerning wall-motion abnormalities, and to detect and characterize left ventricular thrombi. A major goal is to identify a subgroup of patients with acute myocardial infarction who are at risk for systemic embolization; in this subgroup the benefits of anticoagulation treatment would theoretically outweigh the associated risks. We studied 7 consecutive male patients, age range from 32 to 60 years, with acute myocardial infarction.

Several methods for evaluation of exercise stress testing (EST) have been described in order to analyze the relationship between ST segment changes and heart rate. The ST/HR slope has demonstrated to be worthwhile in identifying severe coronary artery disease (CAD). We applied this method in patients catalogued as borderline in the traditional exercise test to find out if they could be considered to have a severe CAD.

To search for electrocardiographic clues of infarction of the right ventricle, we recorded the right-thoracic unipolar leads from V3R to V6R and the following abdominal leads: MD, ME and MI, in a group of 40 normals (control group) and in a group of 40 patients with their first acute transmural myocardial infarction (25 posterior-inferior, 15 anterior wall). We described the predominant ECG morphologies in the control waves (more than 0.04 sec.

A group of 19 patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF) of diverse etiology received as a part of their treatment positive and expiratory pressure (PEEP). All of them were evaluated clinically and with several respiratory parameters. The response to treatment, complications and mortality rates are analyzed.
