Background: Patients with secondary acute myeloid leukemia who previously received hypomethylating agents for prior myeloid neoplasms (HMA-sAML) face a dismal prognosis.
Methods: The authors analyze the characteristics, therapeutic approaches, and outcomes of patients with HMA-sAML from the Programa Español para el Tratamiento de Hemopatías Malignas (PETHEMA) registry.
Results: A total of 479 patients were included, mostly from prior myelodysplastic syndrome (84%).
Antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins are involved in myeloma cell survival. To date, their expression in multiple myeloma (MM) patients has mostly been analyzed at the RNA level. In the present study, we quantified for the first time the protein expression of the Bcl2-family members using a capillary electrophoresis immunoassay in 120 newly diagnosed MM patients, aged ≤65 years, treated in the context of the PETHEMA/GEM2012 study.

The analysis included 1304 patients from four different GEM-PETHEMA clinical trials. Genetic alterations, such as t(4;14), t(14;16), del(17p), +1q, and del(1p), were investigated using FISH on CD38 purified plasma cells.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has emerged as a promising treatment option; however, outcomes after such therapy in patients with soft-tissue plasmacytomas and other bone lesions remain poorly understood. Data regarding these parameters is scarce within the specific context of CAR T-cell treatment.

We analyzed MRD dynamics using next-generation flow in 201 patients treated in clinical trials with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and T-cell engagers (TCE). Achieving MRD negativity at 10 was associated with 89% reduction in the risk of progression and/or death.

Unlabelled: Human history has been linked to numerous risks to survival, with pandemics being a constant in human life. People suffering from dementia experienced greater difficulties accessing healthcare and treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objective: To identify how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced care for people with dementia or cognitive impairment.
Background/objectives: Emerging evidence suggests that patients suffering from COVID-19 may experience neurocognitive symptoms. Furthermore, other studies indicate a probable association between leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and neurocognitive changes in subjects with post-COVID-19 condition. Our study was designed to determine the correlation between telomere length and cognitive changes in post-COVID-19 subjects.

In this work, a novel family of PIM membranes, prepared by casting and exhibiting optima mechanical properties and high thermal stability, was synthesized from 4,4'-(2,2,2-trifluoro-1-phenylethane-1,1-diyl) bis(benzene-1,2-diol) and two tetrafluoro-nitrile derivatives. Gas permeability measurements evidenced a CO/CH selectivity up to 170% relative to the reference polymer, PIM-1, in agreement with their calculated fractional free volume and the analysis of the textural properties by N and CO gas adsorption.

In the context of the GEM2012MENOS65 and GEM2014MAIN trials, we compared the performance of QIP-MS in serum with next-generation flow (NGF) cytometry in bone marrow to assess MRD in paired samples obtained postinduction, transplant, consolidation and after 24 cycles of maintenance. At each time point, both NGF and QIP-MS were able to segregate 2 groups of patients with significantly different progression-free survival; when the evolution of the results obtained with either method was considered, maintaining or converting to MRD negativity was associated with longer survival, significantly better when compared with sustaining or converting to MRD positivity.

Here, we present a single institution's experience assessing MRD by NGS of Ig genes and the long-term impact of depth of response as well as clonal diversity on the clinical outcome of a large population of MM patients; 482 MM patients at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) diagnosed from 2008 to 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. MRD assessment was performed by NGS.

Design: This quantitative study was performed with 231 participants in the USA, given the country's long history of surrogacy, to help clarify the profile of women who become surrogates, their power of decision and motivations.
Results: Descriptive and multivariate cluster analyses showed that women who become surrogates earn above the average income for their state of residency, have a high level of education, have health insurance, are employed, and decide to become a surrogate for prosocial/altruistic reasons.
Conclusions: In contrast to the premise of both radical feminism and ultra-conservative Catholicism, this study found that altruism and empathy are the primary motivations for participating in surrogacy processes, and that a woman's decision to become a surrogate is not motivated by social conditioning relating to poverty or social status.

Purpose: Early treatment of high-risk smoldering myeloma has been shown to delay progression to multiple myeloma (MM). We conducted this trial with curative intention using a treatment approach employed for newly diagnosed patients with MM.
Methods: Patients with high-risk smoldering myeloma (>50% progression risk at 2 years) and transplant candidates were included and received induction therapy with carfilzomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone (KRd), six cycles, followed by high-dose melphalan (200 mg/m) autologous stem-cell transplantation (HDM-ASCT), two KRd consolidation cycles, and Rd maintenance for 2 years.
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a genetically heterogeneous disease and the management of relapses is one of the biggest clinical challenges. alterations are established high-risk markers and are included in the current disease staging criteria. is the most frequently mutated gene affecting around 20% of MM patients.

We have, therefore, investigated QIP-MS to monitor peripheral residual disease (PRD) in 62 HRsMM patients enrolled in the GEM-CESAR trial. After 24 cycles of maintenance, detecting the M-protein by MS or clonal plasma cells by next-generation flow cytometry (NGF) identified cases with a significantly shorter median progression-free survival (mPFS) (MS: not reached vs.

We herein report HRQoL results from the EURO-SKI trial. Patients who had been on tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) therapy for at least 3 years and achieved MR4 for at least 1 year were enrolled from 11 European countries, and the EORTC QLQ-C30 and the FACIT-Fatigue questionnaires were used to assess HRQoL and fatigue respectively.
