Background: To reduce the number of deaths caused by exsanguination, the initial management of severe trauma aims to prevent, if not limit, the lethal triad, which consists of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia. Recently, several studies have suggested adding hypocalcemia to the lethal triad to form the lethal diamond, but the evidence supporting this change is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the lethal triad and lethal diamond for their respective associations with 24-h mortality in severe trauma patients receiving transfusion.

When multiple reaction steps occur before thermal equilibration, kinetic energy from one reaction step can influence overall product distributions in ways that are not well predicted by transition state theory. An understanding of how the structural features of mechanophores, such as substitutions, affect reactivity, product distribution, and the extent of dynamic effects in the mechanochemical manifolds is necessary for designing chemical reactions and responsive materials. We synthesized two tetrafluorinated [4]-ladderanes with fluorination on different rungs and found that the fluorination pattern influenced the force sensitivity and stereochemical distribution of products in the mechanochemistry of these fluorinated ladderanes.

The increasing availability of graphics processing units (GPUs) for scientific computing has prompted interest in accelerating quantum chemical calculations through their use. However, the complexity of integral kernels for high angular momentum basis functions often limits the utility of GPU implementations with large basis sets or for metal containing systems. A coherent vibrational wavepacket is launched and manipulated in the symmetric stretch (a) mode of CBr, by impulsive stimulated Raman scattering (ISRS) from nonresonant 400 nm laser pump pulses with various peak intensities on the order of tens of 10 W/cm. Extreme ultraviolet (XUV) attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ATAS) records the wavepacket dynamics as temporal oscillations in XUV absorption energy at the bromine M 3d edges around 70 eV. The results are augmented by nuclear time-dependent Schrödinger equation simulations.

Biophysical factors play a fundamental role in human embryonic development. Traditional in vitro models of organogenesis focused on the biochemical environment and did not consider the effects of mechanical forces on developing tissue. The photo-induced dynamics of -nitrophenol, particularly its photolysis, has garnered significant scientific interest as a potential source of nitrous acid in the atmosphere. Although the photolysis products and preceding photo-induced electronic structure dynamics have been investigated extensively, the nuclear dynamics accompanying the non-radiative relaxation of -nitrophenol on the ultrafast timescale, which include an intramolecular proton transfer step, have not been experimentally resolved.
