Weak D type 42 cases found in individuals of European descent.

Patient samples were referred to our immunohematology reference laboratory to investigate the presence of a weak D antigen. In the last 3 years, 26 samples were received. Serology and molecular analyses were performed to identify the weak D variant.

A new DEL variant caused by exon 8 deletion.

Background: A 28-year-old woman of Lebanese origin experienced two stillbirths. At the time, serology typed her red blood cells as being group A D- and found an anti-D in her serum sample. Molecular biology analysis, however, showed that she was in fact RHD+.

Phage-derived monoclonal anti-Lu.

Background: Monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) are gradually replacing human polyclonal sera as typing reagents. Many blood group specificities, however, are not amenable to classic hybridoma technology. The phage display technology, aimed at isolating peptides or antibody fragments, offers an alternative strategy.
