[Prevention of infectious diseases. Update on PAPPS 2024 vaccines].

Vaccination throughout life is the best way to prevent infectious diseases and improve people's quality of life. As health professionals we must know the vaccine indications and guidelines as if they were any other treatment. In the updates for this year 2024, we continue to focus on the most relevant developments in terms of indications, changes in vaccination guidelines, new vaccines incorporated into the adult calendar and even anticipating the next vaccines to be incorporated in a short period of time.

Electro-optics of confined systems.

Confinement in microenvironments occurs in many natural systems and technological applications. However, little is known about the behaviour of the immersed nanoparticles. In this work we show that their diffusion, electro-orientation and electric field induced polarization can be determined through electric birefringence experiments.

[Vaccination against the herpes zoster virus].

Objective: To review the latest published evidence on the vaccine used in our country against the herpes zoster virus, breaking down the results according to the efficacy, efficiency, effectiveness and safety of the vaccine. Include the current recommendations for vaccination.

Needle arthroscopy of the elbow through an anterior transbrachial portal.

Background: Current innovation in needle arthroscopy is improving the safety of anterior portals around the elbow. This study evaluated the proximity to the radial nerve, median nerve, and brachial artery on cadaveric specimens of an anterior portal used for elbow arthroscopy.

Methods: Ten fresh-frozen adult cadaveric extremities were used.

Electro-optical Study of the Anomalous Rotational Diffusion in Polymer Solutions.

Brownian diffusion of spherical nanoparticles is usually exploited to ascertain the rheological properties of complex media. However, the behavior of the tracer particles is affected by a number of phenomena linked to the interplay between the dynamics of the particles and polymer coils. For this reason, the characteristic lengths of the dispersed entities, depletion phenomena, and the presence of sticking conditions have been observed to affect the translational diffusion of the probes.

[Infectious Disease Prevention Group: Update on vaccines, 2022].

The update of the preventive activities for this year 2022 in the field of infectious diseases is of special relevance due to the importance that prevention has gained and more specifically, vaccination as a tool to control the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus declared on March 11, 2020. The pandemic has focused much of the prevention efforts on its containment, but the importance of maintaining high vaccination coverage of the rest of the recommended vaccines to maintain good control of vaccine-preventable diseases and avoid complications in particularly vulnerable patients should not be forgotten. In this year's review we present a practical document with the aim of providing tools to primary care professionals who work with adults, to make the indication of each vaccine whether it is systematically recommended or if it is because the patient belongs to some risk group due to their condition or underlying pathology.

Electro-orientation of Ag nanowires in viscoelastic fluids.

In this work we study the electro-orientation (through electric birefringence experiments) of silver nanowires in polymer solutions eventually capable of forming gel networks. Information on the structure of the polymer solution is obtained by evaluating the electro-orientation of the nanowires. It is found that in presence of poly(ethylene oxide), Kerr's law (birefringence proportional to the square of the field) is fulfilled, and the randomization process after switching off the external field is purely diffusive, controlled by the viscosity of the Newtonian polymer solution.

[Relevance of clinical and serum parameters on severe urinary sepsis after renal obstruction.].

Introduction: Urosepsis is an underdiagnosed entity with high morbidity and mortality and significant associated costs. The delay in diagnosis leads to an increased risk of multiorgan failure and death. Although its prognosis is better than that of other sepsis, the mortality rate is 20 - 40%.

[Inappropriate actions in adult vaccination].

Vaccines constitute one of the main foundations of the public health system, improving the quality and life expectancy of people. The vaccination calendar must be extended to the whole life of a person and in recent years the vaccination of the adult has become more complex and requires a greater knowledge of it. The role of primary care health is essential in order to improve vaccination coverage given the patient's closeness and trust.

Self-control of the PHO regulon: the PhoP-dependent protein PhoU controls negatively expression of genes of PHO regulon in Streptomyces coelicolor.

Phosphate control of the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites in Streptomyces is mediated by the two component system PhoR-PhoP. Linked to the phoR-phoP cluster, and expressed in the opposite orientation, is a phoU-like encoding gene with low identity to the phoU gene of Escherichia coli. Expression of this phoU-like gene is strictly dependent on PhoP activation.

Background: Ageing of the Spanish population results in an increase in health services required. Therefore, determine the frequency of the health services utilization in this age group and analyze their determinants has a great interest.The aim was to analyze the utilization of health services among older people living in two urban neighborhoods of northern Madrid.

Primary and metastatic renal hemangiopericytoma.

Objective: Haemangiopericytoma is an uncommon perivascular tumor that occurs more frequently in soft tissues and is extremely rare in the kidney.

Methods: We report two cases: The first one is the case of a 57-year-old man with bilateral metastatic renal haemangiopericytoma which appeared 18 years after removal of a meningeal haemangiopericytoma. The second is a 29-year-old woman with a primary kidney haemangiopericytoma that was casually found in a nephrectomy piece.

Material And Methods: We included 85 patients and studied a total of 213 vertebrae (both pathologic and normal). For each vertebra, we determined whether the lesion was hypointense in T1-weighted sequences and whether it was hyperintense in STIR and in diffusion-weighted sequences.

Objectives: Testicular cancer represents about 1% of malignant tumors in men. Shoulder dislocation in patients older than 60 years of age.

Purpose: Recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation in elderly patients is a little studied condition. The goal of this paper is to clarify the role of associated injuries with respect to loss of function and recurrence of dislocation.

Materials And Methods: We have conducted a retrospective, descriptive study on 29 patients older than 60 years at the moment they suffered their first dislocation episode.
