Background: Adenovirus infections constitute an important cause of morbidity and mortality after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Detection and monitoring of adenovirus in EDTA-plasma by real-time quantitative PCR is a sensitive tool for identification and management of patients at risk of a potentially fatal infection.
