Background & Aims: Genetic ancestry or racial differences in health outcomes exist in diseases associated with systemic inflammation (eg, COVID-19). This study aimed to investigate the association of genetic ancestry and race with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), which is characterized by acute systemic inflammation, multi-organ failure, and high risk of short-term death.

Methods: This prospective cohort study analyzed a comprehensive set of data, including genetic ancestry and race among several others, in 1274 patients with acutely decompensated cirrhosis who were nonelectively admitted to 44 hospitals from 7 Latin American countries.

Introduction: The primary nonfunction of the graft (PNF) after liver transplantation is acute graft failure, in the absence of some causal factor, such as acute thrombosis of the hepatic artery or portal vein.

Objectives: Describe the perioperative characteristics of Liver transplant patients who presented NFPI in the Transplant Department of the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen Hospital.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study.

Background & Aim: Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT) has a poor prognosis, and the adjusted effect of different treatments on post-recurrence survival (PRS) has not been well defined. This study aims to evaluate prognostic and predictive variables associated with PRS.

Methods: This Latin American multicenter retrospective cohort study included HCC patients who underwent LT between the years 2005-2018.

The Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (Asociación Latinoamericana para el Estudio del Hígado; ALEH) represents liver professionals in Latin America with the mission of promoting liver health and quality patient care by advancing the science and practice of hepatology and contributing to the development of a regional health policy framework. Fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction is of specific concern in the ALEH region, where its prevalence is one of the highest globally, second only to the Middle East. A recent consensus from an international panel recommended a new definition of fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction, including a shift in name from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), and adoption of a set of positive criteria to diagnose the disease, independent of alcohol intake or other liver diseases.

Introduction: Portal venous thrombosis (PVT) is common in patients with liver cirrhosis, undergoing liver transplantation (LT); in our setting, this is the first publication with an emphasis on results and surgical strategies.

Objective: Was to review the case history of the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, determine characteristics, types of PVT and surgical management.

Materials And Methods: We analyzed patients undergoing LT who presented PVT between March 2000 and Jun 2018.

Objective: The ideal therapy for chronic hepatitis C is the use of direct acting antivirals (DAA). In Peru there is no data in this aspect, in that sense it is necessary to report real life experience with these drugs.

Material And Methods: A digital survey was sent through e-mail to hepatologists, and the data of four is considered in this study.

Introduction: Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a serious complication of liver disease, which is characterized by the presence of intrapulmonary vasodilation and progressive hypoxemia. Liver transplantation is the only effective treatment.

Objective: To show our results of patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome undergoing liver transplantation.

Introduction: The recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis (HAI) following liver transplantation occurs between 8-68%. In our experience, autoimmune liver diseases are a major indication of liver transplantation.

Objective: To determine the recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis in 15 years of experience and to evaluate the risk factors associated with the recurrence of HAI.

Background And Aim: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an increasing cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver transplantation (LT). Our study focused on changing trends of liver related HCC etiologies during the last years in Latin America.

Methods: From a cohort of 2761 consecutive adult LT patients between 2005 and 2012 in 17 different centers, 435 with HCC were included.

Background And Aims: Heterogeneous data has been reported regarding liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Latin America. We aimed to describe treatment during waiting list, survival and recurrence of HCC after LT in a multicenter study from Latin America.

Material And Methods: Patients with HCC diagnosed prior to transplant (cHCC) and incidentally found in the explanted liver (iHCC) were included.

Background & Aims: The French alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) model has recently shown superior results compared to Milan criteria (MC) for prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) in European populations. The aim of this study was to explore the predictive capacity of the AFP model for HCC recurrence in a Latin-American cohort.

Methods: Three hundred twenty-seven patients with HCC were included from a total of 2018 patients transplanted at 15 centres.
