It is timely and necessary to consider what Postgraduate Medical Training Programme outcomes are, how they are defined and revised over time, and how they can be used to align health professional performance with the healthcare needs of society. This article which addresses those issues, with specific reference to training in anaesthesiology, was prepared using a modified nominal group (or expert panel) approach.

An UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the quantitative confirmatory analysis of residues of nitroimidazole drugs (dimetridazole, ipronidazole, metronidazole, ornidazole and ronidazole) and their corresponding hydroxy metabolites (HMMNI, ipronidazile-OH and metronidazole-OH) in aquaculture tissue. Samples were extracted by shaking in acetonitrile, water, MgSO4 and NaCl before being defatted with n-hexane pre-saturated with acetonitrile and concentrated under nitrogen. Nitroimidazole residues were determined by UHPLC-MS/MS operating in positive electrospray ionisation mode using a reversed phase BEH C18 column.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA qualitative study was conducted to address staff's views of bereavement care in a large hospital setting. Two focus-groups and 1 interview were attended by 21 self-selected staff. The qualitative analysis yielded the following: (a) a staff training program within a structured bereavement care service may give staff a sense of confidence and pride in this aspect of their work; (b) a whole-hospital approach to bereavement care may offer an alternative model to individual clinical services; (c) the question is raised as to whether the presence of a bereavement co-ordinator helps contain staff anxiety and other painful emotions generated by contact with the dying and bereaved; and (d) the potential role of ancillary staff in bereavement care warrants more study.

This paper describes the determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in milk samples, using a novel molecularly imprinted polymer. The imprinted polymer was developed using a rational design approach, and pre-polymerization interactions were investigated using molecular dynamics simulations and X-ray crystallography. A hydroquinone-imprinted polymer was used for solid phase extraction (SPE) clean-up of samples.

This is the first paper to report a method for the detection of the new anthelmintic monepantel and its sulfone metabolite in goat's milk and ovine muscle. Samples were extracted and purified using a modified QuEChERS method. A concentration step was included when analyzing in the low μg kg(-1) range.

A dual validation approach was adopted to reliably quantify anthelmintic residues over an extended concentration range (1-3000 μg kg(-1)). Sample extraction and purification was carried out using a modified QuEChERS method.

A response rate of over 40% provided 339 completed questionnaires from bereaved next-of-kin. The findings suggest that a tiered pyramid model of bereavement care (the Beaumont model) may be functional in a number of ways.
