Youth's social status (popularity and likability) relates with social status goals as well as bullying and prosocial behaviors within the context of classroom norms for bullying and prosocial behaviors, but less clear is how each of these factors interrelates with each other. The current study empirically analyses the concurrent relationships among social status goals, bullying and prosocial behaviors, and classroom norms with social status. Participants were a nationally representative sample of 6,421 Slovenian early adolescents (50% females; M = 13 years; SD = 6 months).

Modern microscopy systems allow researchers to generate large volumes of image data with relative ease. However, the challenge of analyzing these data effectively is often hindered by a lack of computational skills. This bottleneck negatively impacts both research reproducibility and efficiency, as researchers frequently rely on manual or semi-automated analysis methods.

Kirsten rat sarcoma virus (KRAS)-G12C inhibition causes remodeling of the lung tumor immune microenvironment and synergistic responses to anti-PD-1 treatment, but only in T cell infiltrated tumors. To investigate mechanisms that restrain combination immunotherapy sensitivity in immune-excluded tumors, we used imaging mass cytometry to explore cellular distribution in an immune-evasive KRAS mutant lung cancer model. Cellular spatial pattern characterization revealed a community where CD4 and CD8 T cells and dendritic cells were gathered, suggesting localized T cell activation.

Purpose: In Australia, there is limited research regarding the effect of rurality on health care utilization using longitudinal data.

Methods: We analyzed data from four annual waves (2009, 2013, 2017, and 2021) of the longitudinal Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey to examine changes in the health care utilization over time among urban and rural residents. Poisson regression models estimated adjusted incidence rate ratios (aIRR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for rural versus urban residents, accounting for a range of health-related and sociodemographic characteristics.

Cyanobacterial blooms require monitoring, as they pose a threat to ecosystems and human health, especially by the release of toxins. Along with widely reported microcystins, cyanobacteria coproduce other bioactive metabolites; however, information about their dynamics in surface waters is sparse. We investigated dynamics across full bloom successions throughout a five-year lake monitoring campaign (Greifensee, Switzerland) spanning 150 sampling dates.

Background: Previous research showed that behavioural activation is as effective as cognitive-behavioural therapy for general depression. However, it remains unclear if it leads to greater improvement in depressive symptoms when compared with standard treatment for post-stroke depression.

Aims: To compare the effectiveness of behavioural activation against control conditions in reducing depression symptoms in individuals with post-stroke depression.

  • Chitosan is a biocompatible material that shows potential for delivering drugs effectively.
  • When combined with chitosan, drugs can be released over a longer period of time.
  • Hydrophilic drugs might need unique approaches to achieve a similar sustained release effect.

The control of eye gaze is critical to the execution of many skills. The observation that task experts in many domains exhibit more efficient control of eye gaze than novices has led to the development of gaze training interventions that teach these behaviours. We aimed to extend this literature by i) examining the relative benefits of feed-forward (observing an expert's eye movements) versus feed-back (observing your own eye movements) training, and ii) automating this training within virtual reality.

Background: Athletes display a high prevalence of undesired sleep characteristics that may affect both performance and wellbeing.

Objectives: This scoping review aimed to identify and map the existing evidence of behavioral sleep interventions and their effects on sleep outcomes in athletes, and retrospectively code the behavior change techniques (BCTs) implemented using the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy (BCTTv1).

Methods: Conducted following the JBI methodology for scoping reviews, four online databases were used to identify prospective interventions with at least one behavioral component in competitive athletes, and reporting a sleep outcome pre- and post-intervention.

People in custody are at high risk of developing depression. Accessing psychological treatments in a prison setting is a particular challenge, in part, due to difficulties accessing specialist mental health workers. Behavioural Activation (BA) may be helpful in improving health outcomes for people in custody experiencing depressive symptoms.

In this study, we characterize the exopolymer produced by Halomonas sp. strain TGOS-10 -one of the organisms found enriched in sea surface oil slicks during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The polymer was produced during the early stationary phase of growth in Zobell's 2216 marine medium amended with glucose.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding recurrent tuberculosis (rTB) etiology is crucial for effective TB control, and whole genome sequencing (WGS) provides better genetic analysis than traditional methods.
  • In a study of American Indian and Alaska Native individuals in Alaska from 2008-2020, rTB episodes were significantly higher among this group, with 11.8% of cases being recurrent compared to 3.9% nationally.
  • The study found that 65.8% of rTB cases were due to reinfection, highlighting the need for improved surveillance and control measures in these communities to combat the spread of TB.

The role for routine whole genome and transcriptome analysis (WGTA) for poor prognosis pediatric cancers remains undetermined. Here, we characterize somatic mutations, structural rearrangements, copy number variants, gene expression, immuno-profiles and germline cancer predisposition variants in children and adolescents with relapsed, refractory or poor prognosis malignancies who underwent somatic WGTA and matched germline sequencing. Seventy-nine participants with a median age at enrollment of 8.

Background: Negative symptoms, frequently experienced by people with schizophrenia, can impair functional outcomes and quality of life. Negative symptoms typically affect motivation, communication, and the ability to live independently and are difficult to treat. Several meta-analyses suggest that cognitive behavioural therapy results in a modest reduction in negative symptoms.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel double-coated sinus stent (CASS) was developed to improve antibiotic delivery, featuring ciprofloxacin and azithromycin, but initial drug release was insufficient for clinical use.
  • In vitro tests confirmed uniform drug coating and sustained release of ciprofloxacin over 14 days, while in vivo results showed significant antibiotic release in rabbits with no notable safety concerns.
  • The findings indicate that CASS effectively delivers therapeutic levels of antibiotics, warranting further research to confirm its efficacy in treating sinusitis.

This study presents the sleep characteristics of British student-athletes and examines the relationships between sport scheduling and time demands on sleep outcomes. Student-athletes (n = 157, 51% male) completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and the Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI). Self-reported sleep characteristics on weekdays and weekends, weekly frequencies of early morning and late evening sport sessions, and academic-related and sport-related time demands were also collected.

Evidence shows that behavioral activation (BA), a simple form of psychological therapy, is as effective as the more complex psychological therapy-cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-in treating general depression. However, it remains unclear whether BA when compared with treatment-as-usual (TAU) has greater contributions in reducing postnatal depression. This systematic review compared the effect of BA versus TAU in reducing depression symptoms among postnatal women.
