Lactic acid bacteria of the genus Weissella contribute to spontaneous fermentation in, e.g., sourdough or sauerkraut, but are not registered as starter cultures because of their pending safety assessment.

Apart from acid production, some strains additionally synthesize exopolysaccharides (EPS) which contribute to texture improvement and syneresis reduction, both being attributable to the EPS's high water binding capacity. There are two different types of EPS that may be produced, namely free exopolysaccharides (fEPS) which are secreted into the medium, and capsular EPS (cEPS) which remain attached to the bacterial cell wall.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are potent antiviral agents that reduce adverse clinical outcomes in adults, but are commonly not approved for use in pediatric patients.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated mAb treatment in children <12 years of age or <40kg with SARS-CoV-2 infection between January 1, 2021, and March 7, 2022, in 12 tertiary care centers in 3 European countries.

Models of ultrasound propagation in biologically relevant media have applications in planning and verification of ultrasound therapies and computational dosimetry. To be effective, the models must be able to accurately predict both the spatial distribution and amplitude of the acoustic pressure. This requires that the models are validated in absolute terms, which for arbitrarily heterogeneous media should be performed by comparison with measurements of the acoustic field.

However, some patients suffer from adverse effects mandating treatment discontinuation, and cases with defects more frequently experience early progression of the disease. Development of alternative therapeutic approaches is, therefore, of critical importance.

The 5800- to 6100-Da peptide contains 50-52 amino acids residues. The amino acid composition is (Pro, Ile)1; His1-2; (Thr, Ser, Gly, Met, Tyr)2; (Val, Phe, Lys)3; (Ala, 1/2Cys, Leu, Arg)4; Glx5; Asx7; Trp, n.

The course of the secretory axons to the neurohemal organ, the sinus gland, could be traced. The sinus gland also exhibited strong fluorescence.
