Paragonimiasis is a zoonotic, food-borne trematode infection that affects 21 million people globally. Trematodes interact with their hosts via extracellular vesicles (EV) that carry protein and RNA cargo. We analyzed EV in excretory-secretory products (ESP) released by Paragonimus kellicotti adult worms cultured in vitro (EV ESP) and EV isolated from lung cyst fluid (EV CFP) recovered from infected gerbils.

The efficacy of early SRT to the prostate bed with or without pelvic lymph nodes compared to surveillance in patients with PSA recurrence after radical prostatectomy and no identifiable recurrent disease evident on prostate specific membrane antigen-positron emission tomography/computer tomography (PSMA-PET/CT) is unknown.
Study Design: The Dedicated Imaging Post-Prostatectomy for Enhanced Radiotherapy outcomes (DIPPER) is an open-label, multicentre, randomised Phase II trial.
Cannabis use is associated with brain functional changes in regions implicated in prominent neuroscientific theories of addiction. Emerging evidence suggests that cannabidiol (CBD) is neuroprotective and may reverse structural brain changes associated with prolonged heavy cannabis use. In this study, we examine how an ∼10-week exposure of CBD in cannabis users affected resting-state functional connectivity in brain regions functionally altered by cannabis use.

Phosphate and calcium ions are nutrients that play key roles in growth, differentiation and the production of bioactive secondary metabolites in filamentous fungi. Phosphate concentration regulates the biosynthesis of hundreds of fungal metabolites. The central mechanisms of phosphate transport and regulation, mediated by the master Pho4 transcriptional factor are known, but many aspects of the control of gene expression need further research.

Premature mobilization could lead to refracture, but late mobilization may cause stiffness and delay return to normal function. This study aims to explore the risk of refracture at different stages of scaphoid waist fracture union in three common fracture patterns, using a novel finite element method.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the incidence of revision in those with pes planovalgus deformity to those without using a large national database. Given the reciprocal changes in lower extremity alignment associated with planovalgus foot deformity, it has been suggested that patients with this deformity has worse outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis of patients undergoing elective TKA was conducted using the PearlDiver database.
Background: Various injection algorithms have been proposed in the past which are in line with the three aesthetic principles: upper face first, lateral face first, and deep regions first. However, increasing evidence is provided that the upper midface can be targeted with superficial soft tissue filler injections alone too.
Objective: To investigate in a prospective split-face study design whether superficial or deep upper midfacial injections provide superior aesthetic outcomes.
Humans often 'altruistically' punish non-cooperators in one-shot interactions among genetically unrelated individuals. This poses an evolutionary puzzle because altruistic punishment enforces cooperation norms that benefit the whole group but is costly for the punisher. One key explanation is that punishment follows a social-benefits logic: it is eminently normative and group-functional (drawing on cultural group selection theories).

The (P)RR activates the tissue renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and is also involved in regulating integral intracellular pathways such as V-ATPase and Wnt/β-catenin signalling. Given this, the (P)RR may be associated with essential pathways in placentation, however its role within the context of pregnancy remains poorly characterised.

Current staging methods are reported to have sub-optimal performances in metastasis prediction. Accurate identification of patients with tumors at high risk of metastasis would have a significant impact on management.

This is important because, within a context of global change, extreme weather events, such as severe droughts, are predicted to become more frequent. We examined the patterns of microhabitat selection and underground movements (using PIT-tag telemetry) of a strictly fossorial reptile, the North African checkboard amphisbaenian , during the summer drought period.

Methods: Participants were 372 military personnel (46.2% women, 53.
A common protocol for enantioselective alkynylation of isatins and isatin-derived ketimines using terminal alkynes and MeZn in the presence of a catalytic amount of a chiral perhydro-1,3-benzoxazine with moderate to excellent enantioselectivity under mild reaction conditions is described. The additions to ketimines present a novel approach to chiral amines being derivatives of oxindoles. The reaction is broad in scope with respect to aryl- and alkyl-substituted terminal alkynes and isatin derivatives.

The TOM complex is the main entry point for precursor proteins (preproteins) into mitochondria. Preproteins containing targeting sequences are recognized by the TOM complex and imported into mitochondria. We have determined the structure of the TOM core complex from by single-particle electron cryomicroscopy at 3.

Gabapentinoids is a class of drug with analgesic, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant properties and has a reported increase in prescription, use, and adverse outcomes. Regional studies are scant, and postmortem toxicological data may characterise patterns of regional use and inform local interventions. Characterising drug and non-drug-related deaths with gabapentinoid detection may also aid in toxicology interpretation.

Recently, a variety of different π-radicals have been directly imaged and suggested to enable thermally stable bonding; however, a systematic study of reactivity has been lacking. In this work, we use density functional theory to study the reactivity of PAH π-radicals.

There is growing evidence that viral persistence and immune dysregulation may play a major role. We performed whole-body positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in a cohort of 24 participants at time points ranging from 27 to 910 days following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection using a novel radiopharmaceutical agent, [F]F-AraG, a highly selective tracer that allows for anatomical quantitation of activated T lymphocytes.

Study Design: Retrospective 1:3 case-control study of late preterm/term infants with bacterial culture growth obtained <72 hours of life. For categorical approach, infants of mothers with suspected IAI or equivocal/ill appearing were presumed high-risk for EOS and blood culture obtained.

There has always been a close relation between thermodynamic theory and sociological theory, although they repeatedly part company and later rejoin. I discuss some of the most important ways in which the two have been in contact, focusing on the potential passage from theories of energy to theories of information and vice versa. I close by discussing how a closer engagement with classic thermodynamics may continue to be fruitful for sociological theorizing.

TCF4 encodes an activity-dependent transcription factor that is highly expressed during cortical development and in animal models has been shown to regulate various aspects of neuronal development and function. However, our understanding of how disease-causing mutations in TCF4 confer pathophysiology in a human context is lacking.
