Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a feared complication of total joint arthroplasty associated with increased morbidity and mortality. There is a growing body of evidence that bacterial colonization and biofilm formation are critical pathogenic events in PJI. Thus, the choice of biomaterials for implanted prostheses and their surface modifications may significantly influence the development of PJI.

Objective: Endosonography (EUS) performed prior to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or surgery in patients with a low to moderate probability of choledocholithiasis can reduce morbidity, mortality and costs.
Aims: This study aimed at evaluating the sensitivity and specificity of EUS and transabdominal ultrasonography (TUS) compared to ERCP in a cohort of 100 patients diagnosed with extrahepatic biliary obstruction.

In last few years, numerous groups of proteins participating in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation and death during ontogenesis have been described. In this study we compared the occurrence of Bcl-2, p53 and myc protein families with the level of proliferative activity and apoptosis during development of duodenal epithelium. Paraffin embedded tissues of eight human embryos and foetuses aged from the 6th-18th week of IUD were used.
