Objective: Pressure ulcers (PUs) severely impact health outcomes in neonatal intensive care, with up to 28% prevalence and doubled mortality rates. Due to their only partially developed stratum corneum, neonates are highly susceptible to PUs because of a lack of adequate support surfaces. The occipital region of the head and hip are the main risk areas due to immobility and newborn body proportions.

Electrical disaggregation, also known as non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) or non-intrusive appliance load monitoring (NIALM), attempts to recognize the energy consumption of single electrical appliances from the aggregated signal. This capability unlocks several applications, such as giving feedback to users regarding their energy consumption patterns or helping distribution system operators (DSOs) to recognize loads which could be shifted to stabilize the electrical grid. The project "SmartNIALMeter" brought together universities, companies and DSOs and involved the collection of a large data corpus comprising 20 buildings with a total of 100 electrical appliances for a period of up to two years at a sampling interval of five seconds.

Many current light diffusers for photodynamic therapy are inflexible, and the applied light dose is difficult to adjust during treatment, especially on complex body surfaces. A thin and flexible luminous textile is developed using plastic optical fibers as a light distributor. The textile diffuser is evaluated for flexibility, irradiance, brightness distribution, and temperature rise with a 652-nm laser set to 100 mW.
