Article Synopsis
  • Leptospirosis is a significant zoonotic disease prevalent in tropical areas, with severe cases presenting as Weil's syndrome, characterized by jaundice, kidney failure, and bleeding issues; yet, research on liver health in these patients is lacking in Asia.
  • The study aims to analyze liver biochemical profiles and ultrasound findings in Filipino adults with confirmed leptospirosis and explore their relationship to severe illness outcomes and mortality.
  • Findings revealed elevated bilirubin levels in leptospirosis patients, but only mild increases in liver enzymes; ultrasound results showed normal liver size and structure, while dyspnea was linked to a higher mortality risk.
