We report on the optical properties of thin titanium suboxide (TiO ) films for applications in laser transmission welding of polymers. Non-absorbing fibers were coated with TiO coatings by reactive magnetron sputtering. Plasma process parameters influencing the chemical composition and morphology of the deposited thin films were investigated in order to optimize their absorption properties.

Today's adhesive conducting gel electrodes are not suitable for such applications. We have developed an embroidered textile electrode from polyethylene terephthalate yarn which is plasma-coated with silver for electrical conductivity and with an ultra-thin titanium layer on top for passivation.

We present a highly integrated optofluidic system made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The system is replicated in a single-step process from a micromilled polymethyl methacrylate master mold.

Within this setup the conventional imaging is performed by an aluminum-coated spherical lens. The aberrations introduced by this spherical mirror to the channels of the interconnect can be compensated by channel-wise adapted microlenses located at the in- and output interfaces.
