Identification of 58 Mutations (26 Novel) in 94 of 109 Symptomatic Spanish Probands with Protein C Deficiency.

Presently, no data on the molecular basis of hereditary protein C (PC) deficiency in Spain is available. We analyzed the PC gene () in 109 patients with symptomatic PC deficiency and in 342 relatives by sequencing the 9 exons and their flanking intron regions. In 93 probands, we found 58 different mutations (26 novel).

Causes of failure to achieve the low density lipoprotein cholesterol therapeutic target in patients with high and very high vascular risk controlled in Lipid and Vascular Risk Units. EROMOT study.

Objectives: Determination of the level of achievement of the low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) therapeutic target in patients with high and very high vascular risk treated in Lipid Units, as well as the causes of non-achievement.

Patients And Method: Multicentre retrospective observational study that included patients over 18 years with high and very high vascular risk, according to the criteria of the 2012 European Guidelines on Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, referred consecutively to Lipid Units between January and June 2012 and with follow-up two years after the first visit.

Results: The study included a total of 243 patients from 16 lipid units.

Introduction And Objectives: Some anthropometric measurements show a greater capacity than others to identify the presence of cardiovascular risk factors. This study estimated the magnitude of the association of different anthropometric indicators of obesity with hypertension, dyslipidemia, and prediabetes (altered fasting plasma glucose and/or glycosylated hemoglobin).

Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of information collected from 2022 participants in the PREDAPS study (baseline phase).

Melanoma incidence increases in the elderly of Catalonia but not in the younger population: effect of prevention or consequence of immigration?

All cases of MM diagnosed in 23 hospitals in Catalonia, from 2000 to 2007 were recorded and melanoma incidence calculated and adjusted for the European standard population via the direct method. The age standardised rate/100,000 inhabitants varied from 6.74 in 2000 to 8.

Impact of occupational exposure on severity of COPD.

Background: The relationship between occupational exposures and COPD has been analyzed in population-based and occupational cohort studies. However, the influence of these exposures on the clinical characteristics of COPD is not well known. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of occupational exposures on respiratory symptoms, lung function, and employment status in a series of COPD patients.

Fly ash content and distribution in lake sediments around a large power station: inferences from magnetic susceptibility analysis.

The bulk magnetic susceptibility of sediments from artificial and natural lakes around a large coal-fired power station in NE Spain has been measured. Higher magnetic susceptibility values are found in lake sediments located SE of the power station. This distribution of susceptibility values is compatible with environmental and meterological studies of emissions from the power station, which indicate a dominant SE plume direction.
