The long-term evolution of COVID-19 is unknown, making it necessary to study the persistence of symptoms over time and their impact on quality of life in people who have had the disease. We analyzed these aspects 1 year after admission for COVID-19 and explored the influence of treatment with systemic corticosteroids during the acute phase of the illness. This observational cohort study took place in a tertiary hospital in March and April 2021 and included people admitted due to infection with SARS-CoV-2 in March, April, or May 2020.

Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for 15% of lung cancers. Only one-third of patients are diagnosed at limited stage. The median survival remains to be around 15-20 months without significative changes in the strategies of treatment for many years.

How ENDOG controls cardiomyocyte growth is still unknown. Thus, we aimed at finding the link between ENDOG activity and cardiomyocyte growth.

Methods: An observational, prospective, multicentre study was conducted to evaluate the results of a pharmaceutical care programme at discharge. Patients from 10 hospitals participating in the CONSULTENOS programme were enrolled.
We demonstrate experimentally all-optical switching on a silicon chip at telecom wavelengths. The switching device comprises a compact ring resonator formed by horizontal silicon slot waveguides filled with highly nonlinear silicon nanocrystals in silica. When pumping at power levels about 100 mW using 10 ps pulses, more than 50% modulation depth is observed at the switch output.

A symmetric configuration is initially presented to demonstrate that the same strong confinement and propagation constants can be obtained for both polarizations and slot thicknesses down to 50 nm. To make easier further realization of these waveguides, an asymmetric waveguide configuration with a vertical slot height of up to 120 nm is proposed.

Its location in a plasmid suggests that these resistance genes may be transferred from 1 species to another.

In order to reduce power consumption requirements, different ring-resonator structures are introduced in the arms of the MZI. A nonlinear Transfer Matrix Method is developed and used to analyze the response of the nonlinear MZI in order to optimize power requirements with maximum bit rates.

In addition, guided modes have zero dispersion at the central region of the transmission miniband. We show that CCWs created in planar photonic crystals, in which index guiding is required in some spatial dimensions, are intrinsically lossy in the region of zero dispersion, which strongly limits their use in nonlinear applications and devices.

Efficient optical switching is achieved by modifying the refractive index of the coupling region between the coupled waveguides by means of an optical control signal that is confined in the central region. The introduction of multiple defects is designed properly depending on mode mismatching arising from the different widths of the SWG and the PPC waveguide. The procedure to obtain the optimum defects configuration is described.
