In the present study, we aimed to investigate whether chronic oral glutamine (Gln) supplementation may alter metabolic parameters and the inflammatory profile in overweight and obese humans as well as whether Gln may modulate molecular pathways in key tissues linked to the insulin action in rats. Thirty-nine overweight/obese volunteers received 30 g of Gln or alanine (Ala-control) for 14 days. Body weight (BW), waist circumference (WC), hormones, and pro-inflammatory markers were evaluated.

Method: MTV was estimated using either a region growing automatic software program (RG) or a fixed threshold (FT) segmentation algorithm with the three most common cut-offs proposed in the literature (i.e.
Eye charts are typically optimized to assess visual acuity (VA) with constant and controlled spacing, while close-to-acuity crowding limits letter identification in the normal fovea when adjacent letters are closely spaced. Here we developed a clinical tool that enables the assessment of acuity with different levels of crowding. In a cross-sectional study, we examined the developmental trajectories with our newly devised Milan Eye Chart (MEC).

Integrating biomarkers into the CNS-International Prognostic Index (CNS-IPI) risk model may improve identification of patients at high risk for developing secondary CNS disease. CNS relapse was analyzed in 1418 DLBCL patients treated with obinutuzumab or rituximab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone chemotherapy in the phase 3 GOYA study.

Despite increasing knowledge of the impact of Notch alterations on CLL biology and pathogenesis, the role of Jagged1 expressed in CLL cells remains undefined. In other cell types, it has been shown that after Notch engagement, Jagged1 not only activates Notch in signal-receiving cell, but also undergoes proteolytic activation in signal-sending cell, triggering a signaling with biological effects.

In AML cells, NPM1 mutations result in abnormal cytoplasmic localization of the mutant protein (NPM1c); however, it is unknown whether NPM1c is required to maintain the leukemic state. Here, we show that loss of NPM1c from the cytoplasm, either through nuclear relocalization or targeted degradation, results in immediate downregulation of homeobox (HOX) genes followed by differentiation.

Materials And Methods: Between December 2008 and April 2016, a total of 166 lung metastases in 129 patients affected by oligometastatic disease were treated at our Institution with stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Mainly, the primary tumors were non small-cell lung cancer and colorectal cancer (45.
Nucleophosmin (NPM1) is among the most frequently mutated genes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It is not known, however, how the resulting oncoprotein mutant NPM1 is leukemogenic. To reveal the cellular machinery in which NPM1 participates in myeloid cells, we analyzed the endogenous NPM1 protein interactome by mass spectrometry and discovered abundant amounts of the master transcription factor driver of monocyte lineage differentiation PU.

Crowding limits recognition in normal peripheral vision and it has been suggested to be the core deficit in visual agnosia, leading to a domain-general deficit in object recognition. Using a recently developed tool, we test whether crowding is the underlying deficit in four patients with category specific agnosias: Two with pure alexia and two with acquired prosopagnosia.

High heterogeneity of intratumoral F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) uptake distribution on positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scans has been suggested as a possible marker of chemoresistance in solid tumors. In the present study, we investigated the prognostic value of metabolic heterogeneity (MH) in 103 patients with PMBCL prospectively enrolled in the International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group (IELSG) 26 study, aimed at clarifying the role of PET in this lymphoma subtype.

Indeed, it has been demonstrated that performance of different visual tasks can be improved when a cue, such as a dot, anticipates the position of the target (orienting), or when its dimensions (as in the case of a small square) inform about the size of the attentional window (focusing). Here, we examine the role of these two components of visuo-spatial attention (orienting and focusing) in modulating crowding in peripheral (Experiment 1 and Experiment 3a) and foveal (Experiment 2 and Experiment 3b) vision.

Gene expression profiling (GEP) can identify these cases but it is expensive and not widely available. Using GEP, we identified 10 genes specifically overexpressed by BCR/ABL1-like ALL cases and used their expression values - assessed by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction (Q-RT-PCR) in 26 BCR/ABL1-like and 26 non-BCR/ABL1-like cases to build a statistical "BCR/ABL1-like predictor", for the identification of BCR/ABL1-like cases.

However, IB therapy has been associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) and bleeding. We report on the expert opinion that a group of Italian haematologists, cardiologists, and pharmacologists jointly released to improve the practical management of patients at risk for AF and bleeding during treatment with IB.

Objective: To observe and analyze patients with mild behavioral impairment (MBI), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and a psychiatry group (PG) to compare the risk of progression to dementia.
Methods: From 677 initially assessed ≥60-year-old patients, a series of 348 patients was studied for a five-year period until censoring or conversion to dementia: 96 with MBI, 87 with MCI, and 165 with general psychiatry disorders, including 4 subgroups: Anxiety, Depression, Psychosis and Others.
Translation played a vital role in the development and transfer of alchemy in Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Since its origins in Graeco-Roman Egypt, alchemy was encapsulated in Greek texts which allegedly relied on Persian or Egyptian sources. Later, a variety of Greek and Byzantine writings were translated into Syriac and Arabic, and these translations were in turn fragmented and disseminated in later Arabic compendia.

Donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (DSA) have been recently recognized as an important barrier against successful engraftment of donor cells, which can affect transplant survival. DSA appear more prevalent in this type of transplant due to higher likelihood of alloimmunization of multiparous females against offspring's HLA antigens, and the degree of mismatch.

Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is currently used for cancer therapy either as a T-cell-depleted megadose HSCT following myeloablative conditioning or with T-cell-replete HSCT following nonmyeloablative conditioning (NMAC) and high-dose posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCY). The latter approach suffers from a significant rate of chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), despite prolonged immunosuppression.
