Ephedrone (Methcathinone), a derivative of phenylpropan, (2-(methylamino)-1-phenylpropan-1-one) is synthesised from ephedrine or pseudoephedrine by potassium permanganate oxidation. It has been demonstrated that ephedrone stimulates central nervous system and inhibits dopamine and norepinephrine re-uptake. The authors described the case of a 32-years-old patient, who has been addicted to ephedrone for three years.
