Introduction: Cannabinoids are approved for spasticity and pain in multiple sclerosis (MS). In 2017 the prevalence of current users in the Italian general population was 10.2%, while data on Italian MS patients are limited.

Background: Clinicians are increasingly recognizing the importance of shared decision-making in complex treatment choices, highlighting the importance of the patient's rationale and motivation for switching therapies. This study aimed to evaluate the association between different modalities of changing multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments, cognitive profile and attitude and preferences of patients concerning treatment choice.

Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted at 28 Italian MS centers in the period between June 2016 and June 2017.

Objectives: Evidences from either small series or spontaneous reporting are accumulating that SARS-CoV-2 involves the Nervous Systems. The aim of this study is to provide an extensive overview on the major neurological complications in a large cohort of COVID-19 patients.

Methods: Retrospective, observational analysis on all COVID-19 patients admitted from February 23rd to April 30th, 2020 to ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, Bergamo, Italy for whom a neurological consultation/neurophysiological assessment/neuroradiologic investigation was requested.

Background: clinical factors and frequency of disease-modifying therapy (DMT) changes/interruptions in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients have not been well defined. The aim of this study was to describe reasons of MS treatment modifications in a large cohort of Italian MS patients.

Methods: this multicenter, cross-sectional non interventional study (SWITCH) conducted at 28 Italian MS centers, screened, by visit/telephone contact between June 2016 and June 2017, all RRMS patients receiving stable DMT treatment and enrolled patients with change in DMT treatment.

Background: The mechanisms underlying the therapeutic activity of interferon-β in multiple sclerosis are still not completely understood. In the present study, we evaluated the short and long-term effects of interferon-β treatment on different subsets of regulatory T cells in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients biologically responsive to treatment because of mixovirus resistance protein A inducibility.

Methods: In this prospective longitudinal study, subsets of natural regulatory T cells (naïve, central memory and effector memory) and inducible regulatory T cells (Tr1), as well as in vitro-induced regulatory T cells (Tr1-like cells), were simultaneously quantified by flow cytometry in samples prepared from 148 therapy-naïve multiple sclerosis patients obtained before and after 6, 12, 18, and 24 months of interferon-β-1a treatment.

Background: Prior studies documented that several sleep disorders may coexist in patients affected by Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer disease (AD), and have a strong bidirectional relationship with cognitive decline.

Aim: To assess the self-reported sleep quality and daytime sleepiness among subjects affected by MCI and AD at early-stage and healthy controls, and to verify if sleep disturbances might be an indicator of specific cognitive deficits.

Methods: 139 patients (102 MCI, 37 AD) underwent comprehensive neuropsychological, functional, and behavioral assessment, which also included Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).

Importance: Cerebral amyloidosis is a key abnormality in Alzheimer disease (AD) and can be detected in vivo with positron emission tomography (PET) ligands. Although amyloid PET has clearly demonstrated analytical validity, its clinical utility is debated.

Objective: To evaluate the incremental diagnostic value of amyloid PET with florbetapir F 18 in addition to the routine clinical diagnostic assessment of patients evaluated for cognitive impairment.

Background: Natalizumab is a monoclonal antibody that significantly reduces the occurrence of relapses in relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients. Early papers on the clinical use of natalizumab in RRMS patients reported erythroblastemia as occasional and transient.

Objectives: to determine the prevalence and absolute count of erythroblasts (nucleated red blood cells, NRBCs) in peripheral blood of RRMS patients in different treatment groups and healthy controls from the same geographic area using the same equipment for laboratory analysis.

We report the first Italian case of glatiramer acetate-related acute hepatotoxicity. A 25-years-old woman suffering from multiple sclerosis presented acute hepatitis after eight months of treatment. Neither infective, nor autoimmune markers were detected.

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between olfactory and cognitive functions in subjects affected by mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and to investigate whether olfactory deficits might reflect the likelihood of conversion from MCI to dementia. In this longitudinal study conducted on a sample of MCI outpatients, CA-SIT Smell Identification Test was administered to 88 MCI subjects and 46 healthy control subjects. MCI subjects have been divided into two groups, considering smell identification performances: 40% had normal performances (MCI olfactory-normal), whereas 60% had a moderate olfaction deficit (MCI olfactory-impaired).
