Difluorinated sulfonamide porphyrin (FPGly) and bacteriochlorin (FBGly), modified by glycine residues, were synthesized and evaluated for photodynamic therapy (PDT). F₂PGly exhibits superior stability and singlet oxygen generation efficiency but features a low-intensity band in the red range (λ = 639 nm). In contrast, FBGly shows a favorable, red-shifted absorption spectrum (λ = 746 nm) that aligns well with phototherapeutic window, facilitating deeper tissue penetration.

Anticancer therapies that combine both diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities hold significant promise for enhancing treatment efficacy and patient outcomes. Among these, agents responsive to near-infrared (NIR) photons are of particular interest due to their negligible toxicity and multifunctionality. These compounds are not only effective in photodynamic therapy (PDT), but also serve as contrast agents in various imaging modalities, including fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging.

Tetraphenyloporphyrin derivatives are a useful scaffold for developing new pharmaceuticals for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and the photodiagnosis (PD) of cancer. We synthesized new sulfonamide fluorinated porphyrin derivatives and investigated their potential as photosensitizers and real-time bioimaging agents for cancer. We found that 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-[2',3',5',6'-tetrafluoro-4'-methanesulfamidyl)phenyl]bacteriochlorin () has intense absorption and fluorescence in the near-infrared, efficiently generates singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radicals, has low toxicity in the dark, and high phototoxicity.

Novel hybrid TiO-based materials were obtained by adsorption of two different porphyrins on the surface of nanoparticles-commercially available 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) and properly modified metalloporphyrin-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,6-difluoro-3-sulfophenyl)porphyrin palladium(II) (PdFPOH). The immobilization of porphyrins on the surface of TiO was possible due to the presence of sulfonyl groups. To further elevate the adsorption of porphyrin, an anchoring linker-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA)-was used.

Autophagy, a dynamic and complex process responsible for the clearance of damaged cellular components, plays a crucial role in maintaining myocardial homeostasis. In the context of heart failure, autophagy has been recognized as a response mechanism aimed at counteracting pathogenic processes and promoting cellular health. Its relevance has been underscored not only in various animal models, but also in the human heart.
