Aim: To evaluate the salivary biomarkers and plaque index after a treatment with a propolis-contained toothpaste.
Materials And Methods: This is a longitudinal, randomized, double-blind study where 76 participants were randomized into two groups: Group I: Fluoridated Red Propolis toothpaste; Group II: Fluoridated toothpaste. The participants were selected in a municipality without fluoridated public water.
The use of antimicrobials (AMs) in pediatric infections is common practice and use may be inappropriate leading to antimicrobial resistance. Off-label AM use is also common in this group and can result in drug-related problems. There is lack of DUR data in Brazil and in Latin America, specially for AM pediatric use.

Epilepsy affects around 50 million people worldwide and 30% of patients have difficulty controlling the disease. The search for substances that can fill the existing gaps in the treatment of epilepsy is of great importance. Arthropod venoms are promising sources for this purpose due to the presence of small peptides that modulate the activity of ion channels and neuron receptors.

Objective: To assess ADRs associated with anti-infective use in Brazilian hospitalized children.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in 5 public hospitals over 6 months.
To evaluate the fluoride concentration and pH of tea derived from Camellia sinensis produced and commercialized in Argentina. Forty-eight varieties of tea (black (n = 16), green (n = 21), red (n = 7), and white (n = 4)) commercialized in the form of leaves or tea bags were acquired. One bag or 2.

We postulated that dimethyl fumarate (DMF) exerts neuroprotective effects against depression-like behaviors through astrocytes and microglia modulation. To ascertain our hypothesis and define the mechanistic pathways involved in effect of DMF on neuroinflammation, we used the depression model induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS), in which, the mice were exposed to stressful events for 28 days and from the 14th day they received DMF in the doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg or fluoxetine 10 mg/kg or saline. On the 29th day, the animals were subjected to behavioral tests.

Introduction: Fluoride plays an important role in the control of dental caries, and currently new dentifrices are being associated with natural products.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the availability of fluoride in saliva samples after using a dentifrice incorporated with Brazilian red propolis (BRP, INPI Patent no. BR1020170110974) and to compare it to a conventional fluoridated dentifrice in healthy participants.
Purpose: Drug utilization research (DUR) contributes to inform policymaking and to strengthen health systems. The availability of data sources is the first step for conducting DUR. However, documents that systematize these data sources in Latin American (LatAm) countries are not known.

Methods: This is a longitudinal, randomized, controlled clinical trial.
Stress is crucially related to the pathophysiology of mood disorders, including depression. Since the effectiveness and number of the current pharmacological options still presents significant limitations, research on new substances is paramount. In rodents, several findings have indicated that corticosterone administration induces the manifestation of behavioral and neurochemical aspects of depression.

The present study aimed to evaluate the in vitro efflux pump inhibitory capacity of hydroxyamines derived from lapachol and norlachol, where compounds 3, 4, and 5 were tested against the S. aureus strains: RN4220 carrying the pUL5054 plasmid; and IS-58, endowed with the PT181 plasmid. The substances were synthesized from 2-hydroxy-quinones, lapachol and nor-lapachol obtaining the corresponding 2-methoxylated derivatives via dimethyl sulfate alkylation in a basic medium, which then reacted chemoselectively with 2-ethanolamine and 3-propanolamine to form the corresponding amino alcohols.

Background: Cognitive impairment is identified as one of the diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder and can extensively affect the quality of life of patients. Based on these findings, this study aimed to investigate the possible effects of Riparin IV (Rip IV) on cognitive impairment induced by chronic administration of corticosterone in mice.
Methods: Female Swiss mice were divided into four groups: control (Control), corticosterone (Cort), Riparin IV (Cort + Rip IV), and Fluvoxamine (Cort + Flu).

Background: Early childhood caries is a sugar-dependent disease with multifactorial modulating factors affecting deciduous dentition. It is defined as the presence of at least one decayed tooth, absence of a tooth due to caries or the existence of a temporary restoration in a tooth in a child between zero and 71 months of age. No BRP varnish was found in intellectual property banks, therefore it was registered and deposited with patent number BR1020160190142.

Low-exploratory (LE) and high-exploratory (HE) rodents mimic human depressive and hyperthymic temperaments, respectively. Mood disorders (MD) may be developed by the exposure of these temperaments to environmental stress (ES). Psychiatric symptoms severity in MD patients is related to the magnitude of memory impairment.

Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension. Proconvulsant effect is a serious adverse event associated with sildenafil use. Here, we investigated the possible proconvulsant effects of sildenafil in pilocarpine (PILO)-induced seizures model, which mimics some aspects of temporal lobe epilepsy.

Kindling is a model for studying epileptogenesis and associated neuropsychiatric conditions. The antiepileptic drug levetiracetam (LEV) presents anti-kindling properties, but some severe neuropsychiatric events, especially depression, have been associated with its use in epileptic patients. The positive modulation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors emerged as a potential target for the treatment of epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

Riparin II (RipII) has an anti-inflammatory activity potentially due its ability to decrease TNF-α and IL-1β production and its histamine antagonism. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of RipII in the pain process and the possible antinociceptive mechanisms involved, using classic models of nociception. Male Swiss mice were used in the assays.
