In this prospective, randomized comparative study in patients with distal radial fractures, we aimed to determine whether surgical repair of the superficial head after anterior locking plate fixation of the radius improves clinical or functional outcomes or both, and distal radioulnar joint stability. One hundred patients were randomized to undergo distal radial fixation with or without repair of the superficial head. Twenty-one patients were lost to follow-up, leaving a final sample of 79 patients.

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of TXA after two intravenous doses of 1 g each. Between April 2006 and February 2010, 68 consecutive patients (19 male, 49 female) of 74 +/- 6 [m +/- SD] years of age were included and divided into three groups: control (28 patients), in which TXA was not administered but was not contraindicated; TXA (19 patients) who received TXA, and NO-TXA (21 patients), who were not administered TXA because of a contraindication.
