Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) and radiotherapy reduce breast cancer recurrence but can cause functional deficits in breast cancer survivors. A cross-sectional study quantified the long-term pathophysiological impact of these treatments on biomechanical measures of shoulder stiffness and ultrasound shear wave elastography measures of the shear elastic modulus of the pectoralis major (PM). Nine node-positive patients treated with radiotherapy to the breast and regional nodes after BCS and axillary lymph node dissection (Group 1) were compared to nine node-negative patients treated with radiotherapy to the breast alone after BCS and sentinel node biopsy (Group 2) and nine healthy age-matched controls.

Background: The authors have previously shown that an embryonic stem cell-like population within keloid-associated lymphoid tissues in keloid lesions expresses components of the renin-angiotensin system that may be dysregulated. The authors hypothesized that cathepsins B, D, and G are present within the embryonic stem cell-like population in keloid lesions and contribute to bypass loops of the renin-angiotensin system.

Purpose: 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)/leucovorin, irinotecan, and nab-paclitaxel are all active agents in gastrointestinal cancers; the combination, FOLFIRABRAX, has not been previously evaluated. UDP Glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 (UGT1A1) clears SN-38, the active metabolite of irinotecan. polymorphism reduces UGT1A1 enzymatic activity and predisposes to toxicity.

Exposure and ritual prevention (EX/RP) is an effective first-line treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but only some patients achieve minimal symptoms following EX/RP. Herein, we investigate whether task-based neural activity can predict who responds best to EX/RP. The pediatric immune deficiency X-linked proliferative disease-2 (XLP-2) is a unique disease, with patients presenting with either hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) or intestinal bowel disease (IBD). Interestingly, XLP-2 patients display high levels of IL-18 in the serum even while in stable condition, presumably through spontaneous inflammasome activation. Recent data suggests that LPS stimulation can trigger inflammasome activation through a TNFR2/TNF/TNFR1 mediated loop in xiap macrophages.

We have previously reported that a peripheral blood absolute CD38CD8 effector memory T cell (TEM) population expansion of >35 cells/µL predicts the development of acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). We hypothesized that these T cells are activated, proliferating, and cytotoxic trafficking cells that are not a response to viral reactivation and may be involved in acute GVHD. We characterized peripheral blood T cell populations at the time of maximum CD38CD8 TEM expansion in patients from our originally reported pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation recipient cohort.

Background: The optimal prescription of cueing for the treatment of freezing of gait (FoG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) is currently a difficult problem for clinicians due to the heterogeneity of cueing modalities, devices, and the limited comparative trial evidence. There has been a rise in the development of motion-sensitive, wearable cueing devices for the treatment of FoG in PD.
