Cosmological Constraints from Multiple Probes in the Dark Energy Survey.

The combination of multiple observational probes has long been advocated as a powerful technique to constrain cosmological parameters, in particular dark energy. The Dark Energy Survey has measured 207 spectroscopically confirmed type Ia supernova light curves, the baryon acoustic oscillation feature, weak gravitational lensing, and galaxy clustering. Here we present combined results from these probes, deriving constraints on the equation of state, w, of dark energy and its energy density in the Universe.

Transthoracic needle biopsy of the lung: results of early discharge in 506 outpatients.

Purpose: To determine the safety of early discharge (30 minutes) after transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) of the lung.

Materials And Methods: In a prospective study of 506 consecutive outpatients who underwent TTNB of the lung, 440 patients underwent fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) only, and 66 underwent FNAB and core biopsy. Patients were discharged after 30-minute postbiopsy chest radiography if there was no pneumothorax.

New limit on CPT violation.

A search for antiproton decay has been made at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator. Limits are placed on fifteen antiproton decay modes. The results are used to place limits on the characteristic mass scale m(X) that could be associated with CPT violation accompanied by baryon number violation.

Search for a W' boson via the decay mode W'-->munumu in 1.8 TeV pp collisions.

We report the results of a search for a W' boson produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV using a 107 pb-1 data sample recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We consider the decay channel W'-->&munumu and search for anomalous production of high transverse mass munumu lepton pairs.

Effect of a metallic balloon-expanded stent on normal rabbit ureter.

Two-millimeter balloon-expanded Gianturco-Roubin coronary artery stents were placed in the 1-mm-diameter distal ureters of five normal rabbits. Retrograde pyelograms obtained immediately after stent placement showed no obstruction or extravasation of contrast material. Follow-up excretory urograms were obtained for each animal between 4 and 17 days, and autopsy was performed between 35 and 42 days.

A study of experimental endocarditis in pigs.

In a proposed study of fibrinolytic therapy in experimental streptococcal endocarditis, this disease was induced in pigs by preinoculation damage to the aortic valve; the technique of this is described. If untreated, the disease runs a protracted course, similar to that in man. Fibrinolytic activity, normally low in the pig, can be increased by stress, by urokinase, by plasmin and briefly by streptokinase if supplemented by human plasminogen.

Comparative study using norfloxacin and amoxycillin in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections in geriatric patients.

Norfloxacin, a new oral quinolone antimicrobial agent, was shown to have considerably greater activity than nalidixic acid and cinoxacin against sensitive and resistant strains of Enterobacteriaceae. A clinical trial was carried out comparing norfloxacin with amoxycillin in two groups of 20 geriatric patients with complicated urinary tract infection. The cure rate was 95% with norfloxacin and 75% with amoxycillin.

Total body bathing with 'Hibiscrub' (chlorhexidine) in surgical patients: a controlled trial.

In-vitro activity of cefotetan and other cephalosporins against multiresistant strains of Enterobacteriaceae.

The activity of cefotetan against multiresistant strains of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella aerogenes was comparable with that of cefotaxime and ceftazidime, the mean MICs being 0.11 and 0.06 mg/l, respectively.

Does the organization of a child hygiene bureau mean the absorption of every function of a state board of health and an application of the same to children under fifteen, in other words, the creation of a health department for children within the regular state board of health? The writer of this article thinks it should not involve this and suggests a plan to avoid duplication.

Alabama has a State Program for Public Health Nursing. This service, stimulated by the war, has developed enormously everywhere. Most movements in this country are by independent agencies.
