Background: To describe the epidemiology, clinical features, degree of disability and genetic characteristics of a cohort of patients with a vestibulo-cerebellar ataxia of very late onset (LOVCA).

Methods: We analysed the clinical, radiological, and genetic characteristics of a cohort of 50 patients with LOVCA. Where possible, patients were followed over the full course of the disease, including clinical, and molecular genetic analysis of genes known to cause episodic ataxia.

The family Rhinonyssidae includes endoparasitic, blood-feeding mites that are parasitic on birds and that remain largely unstudied despite their potential role as vectors or reservoirs for various pathogens, like other Dermanyssoidea. Traditionally, the taxonomy of the group has been based on morphometric characteristics, which makes identification very difficult in many groups of closely related species. On the other hand, studies on the phylogenetic relationships within this group of mites have been neglected until the early years of the present century.

This study explores the hydrogen generation potential via water-splitting reactions under UV-vis radiation by using a synergistic assembly of ZnO nanoparticles integrated with MoS, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), and crystalline silicon nanowires (SiNWs) to create the MoS-SiNWs-SWNTs@ZnONPs nanocomposites. A comparative analysis of MoS synthesized through chemical and physical exfoliation methods revealed that the chemically exfoliated MoS exhibited superior performance, thereby being selected for all subsequent measurements. The nanostructured materials demonstrated exceptional surface characteristics, with specific surface areas exceeding 300 m g.

This research evaluates the efficacy of catalysts based on CoO-gCN@ZnONPs in the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CFX) and the photocatalytic production of H through water splitting. This study aimed to evaluate morphological, physiological, and biochemical responses as indicative of Zn tolerance in Limonium brasiliense and to determine the ability of this halophyte to accumulate different concentrations of Zn (0, 100, and 200 μM) in hydroponic conditions. The search for plants with a high capacity to tolerate and accumulate metals is an important issue in phytoremediation. In this sense, this study was conducted in the halophyte Atriplex vulgatissima to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of lead (Pb, 50 and 100 μM) or zinc (Zn, 100 and 200 μM) on morphological, physiological, and biochemical parameters as well as the accumulation patterns of this species. The results indicated that while essential metal Zn showed high translocation from roots to shoots (TF > 1), non-essential Pb was mainly accumulated in the roots (BCF>1).

While phytoremediation is a highly valued practice to address local pollution problems, the use of early biomarkers of stress is useful for monitoring environments since they allow us to take measures before deleterious effects are irreversible. In this framework the goals are: to evaluate the pattern of leaf shape variation of Limonium brasiliense plants related to a metal soil gradient in the San Antonio salt marsh; to assess whether seeds from sites with different pollution levels show the same pattern of leaf shape variations under optimal growing conditions; and to compare the growth, the Pb accumulation pattern, and the leaf shape variation pattern of plants germinated from seeds originated in sites with different pollution levels in response to an experimental Pb rise. The results obtained from leaves collected in the field showed that the leaf shape changed depending on the soil metal levels.

The photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by water splitting has been studied, using catalysts based on crystalline TiO nanowires (TiONWs), which were synthesized by a hydrothermal procedure. This nanomaterial was subsequently modified by incorporating different loadings (1%, 3% and 5%) of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the surface, previously exfoliated MoS nanosheets, and CeO nanoparticles (CeONPs).
