Background: Computer-aided modeling and design (CAM/CAD) of patient anatomy from computed tomography (CT) imaging and 3D printing technology enable the creation of tangible, patient-specific anatomic models that can be used for surgical guidance. These models have been associated with better patient outcomes; however, a lack of CT imaging guidelines risks the capture of unsuitable imaging for patient-specific modeling. The synthesis and characterization of a hetero-dinuclear compound is presented, in which a copper(I) trishistidine type coordination unit is positioned directly above a zinc porphyrin unit. The close distance between the two coordination fragments is secured by a rigid xanthene backbone, and a unique (intramolecular) copper porphyrin-π-bond was determined for the first time in the molecular structure. This structural motif was further analyzed by temperature-dependent NMR studies: In solution at room temperature the coordinative bond fluctuates, while it can be frozen at low temperatures.

New iron complexes [Cp*FeL] (1-σ and 1-π, Cp*=C Me ) containing the chelating phosphinine ligand 2-(2'-pyridyl)-4,6-diphenylphosphinine (L) have been prepared, and found to undergo facile reaction with CO under ambient conditions. The outcome of this reaction depends on the coordination mode of the versatile ligand L. Interaction of CO with the isomer 1-π, in which L binds to Fe through the phosphinine moiety in an η fashion, leads to the formation of 3-π, in which CO has undergone electrophilic addition to the phosphinine group.

Antiphase domains are three-dimensional crystal defects commonly arising at the interface of III-V semiconductors and Si. While control over their formation has been achieved, the geometry of the antiphase domain itself that is separated from the mainphase of the crystal by the so-called antiphase boundary, has not yet been fully understood.
