Purpose: Microfocused ultrasound with real-time visualization (MFU-V) is often used for noninvasive skin lifting, by precisely targeting dermal and subcutaneous tissues to create thermal coagulation points (TCPs). These TCPs denature collagen and initiate a transient inflammatory response, ultimately attracting dermal fibroblasts and inducing efficient neocollagenesis and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, yielding to MFU-V's desired skin-lifting effects. The current study investigates MFU-V's underlying mode of action based on the histological progression of TCPs in the skin, providing new insight into the technology's regenerative effect.

Despite various interventions to protect forests, many developing countries, including Ethiopia, continue to face substantial forest conservation challenges, particularly where local communities heavily rely on forests for their livelihoods. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, the government of Ethiopia introduced Participatory Forest Management (PFM) and devolved forest management responsibilities to enhance forest conservation. Therefore, this assessment examines the impacts of PFM on forest cover based on an analysis of the Land Use/Land Cover Change (LULCC) over the last 23 years in Adaba-Dodola, and its implications for REDD+ implementation.

Unleashing antitumor T cell activity by checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy is effective in cancer patients, but clinical responses are limited. Cytokine signaling through the Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) pathway correlates with checkpoint immunotherapy resistance. Although research has been done to define how this allele potentiates autoimmunity, the influence PTPN22 and its pro-autoimmune allele has in anti-viral immunity remains poorly defined. In exsolution, nanoparticles form by emerging from oxide hosts by application of redox driving forces, leading to transformative advances in stability, activity, and efficiency over deposition techniques, and resulting in a wide range of new opportunities for catalytic, energy and net-zero-related technologies. However, the mechanism of exsolved nanoparticle nucleation and perovskite structural evolution, has, to date, remained unclear. In 2018 the University Hospital of Giessen (UHG) moved its hospital information system from an in-house solution to commercial software. The introduction of MEONA and Synedra-AIM allowed for the successful migration of clinical documents. The large pool of structured clinical data has been addressed in a second step and is now consolidated in a HAPI-FHIR server and mapped to LOINC and SNOMED for semantic interoperability in multicenter research projects, especially the German Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and the Medical Informatics in Research and Care in University Medicine (MIRACUM) consortium.

The combination of polymers with nanoparticles offers the possibility to obtain customizable composite materials with additional properties such as sensing or bistability provided by a switchable spin crossover (SCO) core. For all applications, a precise control over size and shape of the nanomaterial is highly important as it will significantly influence its final properties. By confined synthesis of iron(II) SCO coordination polymers within the P4VP cores of polystyrene--poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS--P4VP) micelles in THF we are able to control the size and also the shape of the resulting SCO nanocomposite particles by the composition of the PS--P4VP diblock copolymers (dBCPs) and the amount of complex employed.

We provide an analytical contrast of the dynamics of secondary forest regeneration in Nepal and Peru framed by a set of common themes: land access, boundaries, territories, and rights, seemingly more secure in Nepal than Peru; processes of agrarian change and their consequences for forest-agriculture interactions and the role of secondary forest in the landscape, more marked in Peru, where San Martín is experiencing apparent agricultural intensification, than in Nepal; and finally processes of social differentiation that have consequences for different social groups, livelihood construction and their engagement with trees, common to both countries. These themes address the broader issue of the necessary conditions for secondary forest regeneration and the extent to which the rights and livelihood benefits of those actively managing it are secured.

Forests have long been locations of contestation between people and state bureaucracies, and among the knowledge frameworks of local users, foresters, ecologists, and conservationists. An essential framing of the debate has been between the categories of primary and secondary forest. In this introduction to a collection of papers that address the questions of what basis, in what sense, and for whom primary forest is 'primary' and secondary forest is 'secondary,' and whether these are useful distinctions, we outline this debate and propose a new conceptual model that departs from the simple binary of primary and secondary forests.

The recent discovery in high-pressure experiments of compounds stable to 24-26 GPa with FeO, FeO, FeO, and FeO stoichiometry has raised questions about their existence within the Earth's mantle. Incorporating both ferric and ferrous iron in their structures, these oxides if present within the Earth could also provide insight into diamond-forming processes at depth in the planet. Here we report the discovery of metallic particles, dominantly of FeNi (FeNiCu), in close spatial relation with nearly pure magnetite grains from a so-called superdeep diamond from the Earth's mantle.

Endogenous retrovirus (ERV) are remnants of ancient retroviruses that have been incorporated into the genome and evidence suggests that they may play a role in the etiology of T1D. We previously identified a murine leukemia retrovirus-like ERV whose Env and Gag antigens are involved in autoimmune responses in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice. In this study, we show that the Gag antigen is present in the islet stromal cells.

Ghrelin is an appetite-regulating peptide that is primarily secreted by endocrine cells in the stomach and is implicated in regulation of alcohol consumption and alcohol-reinforced behaviors. In the present study, adolescent Sprague-Dawley rats received intermittent ethanol (AIE) exposure by intragastric intubation (5 g/kg) or vapor inhalation, manipulations conducted between postnatal days (PD) 28-43. On the first and last day of AIE exposure, the level of intoxication was examined 1 h after ethanol gavage or upon removal from the vapor chamber.
