In Colombia, there is a long tradition of using bijao () leaves to package or wrap various foods. However, scientific studies on are limited, and research to evaluate its toxicity and/or antibacterial activity has not yet been conducted. The objective of this research, therefore, was to evaluate the content of phytochemical compounds, levels of toxicity, and antibacterial activity of the extracts, fractions, and essential oil derived from leaves.

The emergence of the new SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the disease known as COVID-19, has generated a pandemic that has plunged the world into a health crisis. The infection process is triggered by the direct binding of the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2 to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) of the host cell. In the present study, virtual screening techniques such as molecular docking, molecular dynamics, calculation of free energy using the GBSA method, prediction of drug similarity, pharmacokinetic, and toxicological properties of various ligands interacting with the RBD-ACE2 complex were applied.

Aim: Alzheimer's disease is a common cause of dementia, and is usually treated with medications that elevate acetylcholine levels. The objective of the present study was to identify drugs with anticholinergic properties prescribed to patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in Colombia.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in outpatients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease who were identified from a population database from Colombia, and had been treated with cholinesterase inhibitors and glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonists.
