We investigate the effect of focused-ion-beam (FIB) irradiation on spin waves with sub-micron wavelengths in Yttrium-Iron-Garnet (YIG) films. Time-resolved scanning transmission X-ray (TR-STXM) microscopy was used to image the spin waves in irradiated regions and deduce corresponding changes in the magnetic parameters of the film. We find that the changes of Gairradiation can be understood by assuming a few percent change in the effective magnetizationof the film due to a trade-off between changes in anisotropy and effective film thickness.

Securing the airway is of the utmost importance, as this is a prerequisite for the oxygenation of the human organism. The clinical relevance of airway management is particularly evident in the fact that the primary cause of significant anesthesia-related complications can be attributed to this field.

Diagnosing invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in non-immunosuppressed patients is difficult, as Aspergillus antigen (galactomannan [GM]) may have other causes. This retrospective study analyzed 160 ICU surgical patients with positive GM in broncho-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF), classifying them based on AspICU criteria for suspected IPA (pIPA) or aspiration.

The aim of this study is to investigate the frequency of difficult tracheal intubation in patients with NPC following RT. : Patients with NPC who underwent RT followed by surgery between 2012 and April 2024 at the University Hospital Heidelberg were retrospectively analyzed.

Still during surgery, the mother underwent cardiac arrest. Transesophageal echocardiography during resuscitation showed right ventricular failure leading to the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.

However, the procedure regularly leads to circulatory failure during the filtration phase, and hemodynamic management is challenging. Our study aimed to compare two different strategies for hemodynamic management during chemosaturation to develop hypotheses for improving patient care and reducing peri-interventional morbidity.

This prospective, observational study evaluated Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) to assess the effects of cardiac surgery and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on microcirculation. 40 Patients with severe aortic stenosis were enrolled. 20 patients underwent transapical/transaxillary/transaortic aortic valve replacement (TAVR), 20 underwent an open surgical approach with CPB (SAVR).

Carnosine and anserine exert some MG-quenching activity, but the impact of these and of other histidine containing dipeptides on cell barrier integrity has not been explored in detail. In human proximal tubular (HK-2) and umbilical vein endothelial (HUVEC) cells, exposure to 200 µM MG decreased transepithelial resistance (TER), i.

Background: Differences in medical treatment between women and men are common and involve out-of-hospital emergency care, the intensity of pain treatment, and the use of antifibrinolytic treatment in emergency trauma patients. If woman and man receive different antifibrinolytic treatment in highly-standardized major transplant surgery is unknown.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study on patients who underwent liver transplantation at Heidelberg University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany between 2004 and 2017.
Purpose: Even today, it remains a challenge for healthcare professionals to decide whether a clinically stable patient who is recovering from uncomplicated medium or major surgery would benefit from a postoperative intensive care unit (ICU) admission, or whether they would be at least as adequately cared for by a few hours of monitoring in the post-operative care unit (PACU).
Methods: In this monocentric retrospective observational study, all adult patients who (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Anästhesiologie und Intensivmedizin (DGAI) in Anästh Intensivmed (50):S486-S489, 2009) underwent medium or major surgery between 1 January 1 2014 and 31 December 2018 at the Heidelberg University Surgical Center, and (Vimlati et al. in Eur J Anaesthesiol September 26(9):715-721, 2009) were monitored for 1-12 h in the PACU, and then (De Pietri et al.
Background: Intraoperative end-tidal carbon dioxide concentrations (EtCO) values are associated with recurrence-free survival after colorectal cancer surgery. However, it is unknown if similar effects can be observed after other surgical procedures. There is now evidence available for target EtCO and its relation to surgical outcomes following pancreatic cancer surgery.

We demonstrate current-driven generation of spin waves in antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic vortices. We use time-resolved x-ray microscopy to directly image the emission of spin waves upon the application of alternating currents flowing directly through the magnetic stack.

Second-generation laryngeal masks may offer a better safety profile. Whether they should be preferred to laryngeal tubes is unknown.

Large animal models, particularly swine, provide anatomical and physiological analogies for coagulation research. Despite the growing use of VHAs, the ClotPro device's applicability in porcine models remains unexplored.

The aim of this study was to determine if patients with infiltration between the popliteal artery and capsule of the posterior knee (IPACK) combined with an adductor canal block (SACB) had less pain, better motor function, and less opioid consumption after TKA than patients with a femoral nerve block (FNB) combined with a popliteal sciatic nerve block (PSB). In a retrospective cohort analysis, 342 patients following primary TKA were examined; 175 patients were treated with an IPACK combined with a SACB, and 167 patients with a femoral FNB combined with a PSB.
