Plasmonic Dispersion Relations and Intensity Enhancement of Metal-Insulator-Metal Nanodisks.

We show that the plasmon modes of vertically stacked Ag-SiO-Ag nanodisks can be understood and classified as hybridized surface and edge modes. We describe their universal dispersion relations and demonstrate that coupling-induced spectral shifts are significantly stronger for surface modes than for edge modes. The experimental data correspond well to numerical simulations.

Estimating a Bias in ICD Encodings for Billing Purposes.

ICD encoded diagnoses are a popular criterion for eligibility algorithms for study cohort recruitment. However, "official" ICD encoded diagnoses used for billing purposes are afflicted with a bias originating from legal issues. This work presents an approach to estimate the degree of the encoding bias for the complete ICD catalogue at a German university hospital.

Semi-Automatic Terminology Generation for Information Extraction from German Chest X-Ray Reports.

Extraction of structured data from textual reports is an important subtask for building medical data warehouses for research and care. Many medical and most radiology reports are written in a telegraphic style with a concatenation of noun phrases describing the presence or absence of findings. Therefore a lexico-syntactical approach is promising, where key terms and their relations are recognized and mapped on a predefined standard terminology (ontology).

Surgical treatment of rhinophyma: experience from a German cohort of 70 patients.

Rhinophyma is a deforming soft tissue hyperplasia of the nose and surgical removal represents the treatment of choice. Comprehensive data on surgical therapy and the impact of rhinophyma on patient quality of life are lacking. Patients who received surgery for rhinophyma between 2006 and 2015 were retrospectively evaluated for postoperative complications, clinical outcome, recurrence of rhinophyma, and the impact of rhinophyma on daily life.

Mapping the local particle plasmon sensitivity with a scanning probe.

We probe the local sensitivity of an optically excited plasmonic nanoparticle by changing the local dielectric environment through a scanning glass fiber tip. Recording the particle plasmon scattering spectrum for each tip position allows us to observe spectral resonance shifts concurrent with changes in scattering intensity and plasmon damping. For the tip-induced spectral shifts we find the strongest sensitivity at the particle edges, in accordance with the spatial plasmonic field profile.

Parental anxiety and concern for children undergoing dermatological surgery.

Parents experience anxiety and concern about their children's anesthesia and surgeries, which can adversely affect the children's outcomes. Therefore, it is important to identify the factors that influence parental fear. Because dermatological surgery is often performed in young children, we examined how a child's age and the size of the dermatological surgical area affected the levels of parental anxiety and concern.

Skin symptoms in four ectodermal dysplasia syndromes including two case reports of Rapp-Hodgkin-Syndrome.

The skin, hair and nail changes in four distinct ectodermal dysplasia syndromes are compared and reviewed. These syndromes comprise Christ-Siemens-Touraine syndrome; ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia and cleft lip/palate syndrome; ankyloblepharon-ectodermal defects-cleft lip/palate syndrome and Rapp-Hodgkin syndrome. A comprehensive overview of the dermatological signs and symptoms in these syndromes was generated from the database of the Ectodermal Dysplasia Network Germany, the clinical findings in the patients seen in our department and an extensive review of the literature.
