In patients with 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl(HMG)-CoA lyase deficiency (OMIM 246450), five pregnancies have been described worldwide, which were either terminated or resulted in severe metabolic sequelae during pregnancy or delivery. Here, we report on a patient with HMG-CoA lyase deficiency, who underwent two uncomplicated pregnancies. The 19-year-old patient was admitted because of recurrent vomiting and nausea.

Kupffer cells are resident macrophages in the liver and play a central role in the hepatic response to injury. Bile acids can impair macrophage function leading to decreased cytokine release. TGR5 is a novel, membrane-bound bile acid receptor, and it has been suggested that the immunosuppressive effect of bile acids can be mediated by TGR5.

Inverse acinar regulation of Mrp2 and 3 represents an adaptive response to hepatocellular cholestatic injury. We studied whether obstructive cholestasis (bile duct ligation) and LPS treatment affect the zonal expression of Bsep (Abcb11), Mrp4 (Abcc4), Ntcp (Slc10a1), and Oatp isoforms (Slco1a1, Slco1a4, and slco1b2) in rat liver, as analyzed by semiquantitative immunofluorescence.
