Background: Acquiring sufficient knowledge and understanding the importance of intestinal microbiota and probiotics in health and disease, as well as their potential for interactions with concurrently administered drugs, can significantly influence future pharmacotherapeutic practices among health science students.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, factors influencing knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding intestinal microbiota and probiotics and their interactions with drugs among students of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the form of an anonymous questionnaire among first- and final-year medical and pharmacy students.

Cardiac Angiosarcoma in the Right Atrium Treated by Surgical Resection.

We present the case of a 49-year-old female of Caucasian European descent with chest tightness, fatigue, and palpitations, ultimately diagnosed with primary intracardiac angiosarcoma. Initial echocardiography revealed a significant mass within the right atrium, infiltrating the free wall. Surgical intervention included tumor excision and partial resection of the superior vena cava.

Two-Dimensional Damage Localization Using a Piezoelectric Smart Aggregate Approach-Implementation on Arbitrary Shaped Concrete Plates.

This paper presents the application of a hybrid approach for damage localization in concrete plates of arbitrary geometric shapes and a constant thickness. The hybrid algorithm utilizes fast discrete wavelet transformation, energy approach and time of flight criteria for the purpose of the localization of single- and multi-damage problems inside or on the periphery of concrete plates. A brief theoretical background of the hybrid method as well as numerical procedures for modeling the piezoelectric smart aggregate and ultrasonic wave propagation are presented.

We wanted to explore the prognostic values of interleukin (IL) 33, soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2), IL 27, and galectin 3 in critically-ill patients.

For example, Marek's disease virus (MDV), which causes lymphoid tumors in chickens, has experienced a marked increase in virulence over the past century. Today, MDV infections kill >90% of unvaccinated birds, and controlling it costs more than US$1 billion annually.

Neuroimaging Modalities Used for Ischemic Stroke Diagnosis and Monitoring.

Strokes are one of the global leading causes of physical or mental impairment and fatality, classified into hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. Ischemic strokes happen when a thrombus blocks or plugs an artery and interrupts or reduces blood supply to the brain tissue. Deciding on the imaging modality which will be used for stroke detection depends on the expertise and availability of staff and the infrastructure of hospitals.

Dexmedetomidine vs. propofol sedation reduces the duration of mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery - a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: The aim of our study was to compare the clinical effects of sedation with dexmedetomidine vs. propofol in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and analyze their effects on the duration of mechanical ventilation (MV), length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), and total hospital stay.

Patients And Methods: The study included 120 patients who were randomized in a 1:1 ratio into two groups of 60 patients.

Comparison of preemptive etoricoxib and dexamethasone in third molar surgery - a randomized controlled clinical trial of patient-reported and clinical outcomes.

Objectives: To compare preemptive single-dose etoricoxib and dexamethasone on postoperative patient satisfaction (pPS) and clinical parameters following the impacted mandibular third molar (IMTM) extraction.

Materials And Methods: A parallel-group, triple-blinded, controlled clinical study included a total of 90 patients (n = 30), randomized to receive: etoricoxib 90 mg, dexamethasone 4 mg, or no premedication (control group) 1 h before surgery. Paracetamol 500 mg was prescribed as rescue medication (RM).

Brixia Chest X-ray Score, Laboratory Parameters and Vaccination Status for Prediction of Mortality in COVID-19 Hospitalized Patients.

Chest X-ray has verified its role as a crucial tool in COVID-19 assessment due to its practicability, especially in emergency units, and Brixia score has proven as a useful tool for COVID-19 pneumonia grading. The aim of our study was to investigate correlations between main laboratory parameters, vaccination status, and Brixia score, as well as to confirm if Brixia score is a significant independent predictor of unfavorable outcome (death) in COVID-19 patients. The study was designed as a cross-sectional multicentric study.

Dental Caries Experience in Children in Public Kindergartens of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Objectives: Dental caries first occurs within primary dentition in toddlers and preschool children, in a form of early childhood caries (ECC). In every day's busy and employment burdened parenting, caretakers and institutions have become important even more nowadays, not only for forming child general behavior and character, but also for maintenance of their general and oral health as well.

Aims: To evaluate the presence and severity of ECC in children who attended public kindergartens in Sarajevo, and to offer basic information for the maintenance and improvement of child oral health to their parents and kindergarten teachers.

Risk factors for late reconnections after circumferential pulmonary vein isolation guided by lesion size index - Data from repeat invasive electrophysiology procedure.

Background: Late reconnections (LR) of pulmonary veins (PVs) after wide antral circumferential ablation (WACA) using point-to-point radiofrequency (RF) ablation are common. Lesion size index (LSI) is a novel marker of lesion quality proposed by Ensite Precision mapping system, expected to improve PV isolation durability. This study aimed to assess the durability of LSI-guided PVI and the risk factors for LR of PVs.

Predictors of Dental Fear and Anxiety in 9-12-year-old Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Objectives: Oral health in children is additionally burdened with the presence of dental fear and anxiety (DFA). These clinical psychologic entities in their progressive stages inevitably lead to avoidance of dental appointments, which makes prevention and therapy of oral diseases more difficult. Upon the onset of DFA in general, as one of the emotional outcomes of stress in a dental office, most children patients could define the specific stressors that were most intense for them, which could predict the presence of DFA.

Palliative care of COVID-19 patients with do-not-resuscitate status in underrepresented minorities.

Background: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on palliative care intervention (PCIs) in patients with do-not-resuscitate (DNR) status remains uncertain.

Methods: Case-control study of patients with DNR order with RT-PCR confirmed SARS-COV2 infection (cases), and those with DNR order but without SARS-COV2 infection (controls). The primary outcome measures included timing and delivery of PCIs, and secondary measures included pre-admission characteristics and in-hospital death.

COVID-19 Impact on Public Dental Healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Current Situation and Ongoing Perspectives.

Background: As the pandemic time went by in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), various patterns toward COVID-19 itself and its impacts, implementation of prescribed preventive measures among the team members, and those of their patients, including immunization process, have been revealed. These patterns were of both empirical and evidence-based kind and consequently formed dental personnel behavior. The aim was to evaluate and compare the COVID-19 status of dentists in B&H, implementation of prescribed preventive measures, and usage of various kinds of PPE, at the beginning of the pandemics and now, 2.

Dental Fear and Anxiety in 9-12 Years Old Children in Clinical Setting in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Normative Values and Types of Informant.

Background: The most commonly used diagnostic tests for evaluation of the dental fear and anxiety (DFA) presence in children were psychometric scales, where interpretation in determining and using of their cut-off scores sometimes was not completely exact. Also, several studies have been conducted where the results were conflicting in terms of who better assessed the DFA presence - the children, their parents, or dentists.

Objective: To determine the normative values in the child and parental versions of the Modified version of the CFSS-DS scale (CFSS-DS-mod scale) and to compare the ways in which children, their parents, and the dentist assessed the DFA presence in the dental office.

CROATIAN GUIDELINES FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF NONALCOHOLIC FATTY LIVER DISEASE.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a term describing excessive accumulation of fat in hepatocytes, and is associated with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. NAFLD prevalence is on increase and goes in parallel with the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its components. That is why Croatian guidelines have been developed, which cover the screening protocol for patients with NAFLD risk factors, and the recommended diagnostic work-up and treatment of NAFLD patients.

Palaeogenomic analysis of black rat (Rattus rattus) reveals multiple European introductions associated with human economic history.

The distribution of the black rat (Rattus rattus) has been heavily influenced by its association with humans. The dispersal history of this non-native commensal rodent across Europe, however, remains poorly understood, and different introductions may have occurred during the Roman and medieval periods. Here, in order to reconstruct the population history of European black rats, we first generate a de novo genome assembly of the black rat.

Adrenal Crisis Secondary to COVID-19 Vaccination in a Patient With Hypopituitarism.

Background/objective: Adrenal crisis (AC) is an acute life-threatening condition that can occur in patients with primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency who are already receiving glucocorticoid replacement therapy or can be a first presentation of adrenal insufficiency. Vaccination with tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, influenza, and pneumococcal vaccines has been reported as a cause of AC. Here, we aimed to present a case of AC precipitated by COVID-19 messenger RNA vaccination in a patient with hypopituitarism.

A comparative study of climacteric symptoms among two populations of mid-aged women.

The purpose of this study was to compare climacteric symptoms associated with health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among women from Madrid (Spain) and Belgrade (Serbia). A cross-sectional study included 461 women from Madrid and 513 women from Belgrade aged 40-65 years. Climacteric symptoms and HRQOL were examined using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS).

Effects of problem-based learning modules within blended learning courses in medical statistics - A randomized controlled pilot study.

Problem-based learning (PBL) allows students to learn medical statistics through problem solving experience. The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of PBL modules implemented in the blended learning courses in medical statistics through knowledge outcomes and student satisfaction. The pilot study was designed as a randomized controlled trial that included 53 medical students who had completed all course activities.

Patterns of smoking and menopause-specific quality of life: smoking duration matters more.

Evidence about the association of quantity of cigarettes smoked and duration of smoking with quality of life in menopause is sparse. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between smoking patterns and menopause-specific quality of life. This cross-sectional study included 513 consecutive midlife women at two primary health care centers in Belgrade, Serbia.
