Hydroxyurea (hydroxycarbamide, HU) arrests cells in the S-phase by inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase and DNA synthesis, significantly contributing to the release of nitric oxide (NO). We investigated the involvement of inducible NO synthase (NOS2) in the cytostatic effect of HU using in vitro shRNA-induced knockdown of the NOS2 transcript (NOS2) or a specific NOS2 inhibitor (1400W) in human erythroleukemic HEL92.1.

Background & Aims: Liver fibrosis and its end-stage form cirrhosis contribute to millions of deaths annually. The lack of robust antifibrotic molecules is in part attributed to the absence of any functional screens to identify molecular regulators using patient-derived primary human hepatic myofibroblasts, which are key drivers of fibrosis.

Methods: Here, to identify robust regulators of fibrosis, we performed functional microRNA screenings in primary human hepatic myofibroblasts followed by in vivo validation in three independent mouse models of fibrosis (toxin, cholestasis and MASH).

: The key factor that enables osteoblastic activity and the formation of new bone, as well as gingiva, during orthodontic tooth extrusion (OE) is the periodontal ligament. The reaction of periodontal tissues associated with changes in the gingiva is a part of orthodontic tooth displacement. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of OE on the width of the zone of the keratinized and attached gingiva, the position of the mucogingival junction, and the height of the interdental papillae in the region where the OE was performed as well as in the adjacent region.

The interforaminal region is considered more favorable for implant placement than the posterior mandible in edentulous patients, mainly because the inferior alveolar nerve can interfere with implant placement in the severely resorbed posterior mandible. However, complications in the interforaminal region may occur due to the presence of the mandibular incisive nerve. This scoping review aims to describe the mandibular incisive nerve anatomy related to the potential interference in implant therapy.

Major changes in the technological, economic, and social behavior of Middle Pleistocene hominins occurred at the onset of the Middle Paleolithic, 400-200 ka. However, until recently it was not possible to establish when, where, and how certain forms of Middle Paleolithic behavior appeared and spread into Southeastern Europe, mainly owing to gaps in the Paleolithic record. Here we report new results of dating, material culture, and the archaeological context of finds from the Balanica Cave Complex in Sićevo (Serbia).
