LncRNAs as Regulators of Atherosclerotic Plaque Stability.

Current clinical data show that, despite constant efforts to develop novel therapies and clinical approaches, atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) are still one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Advanced and unstable atherosclerotic plaques most often trigger acute coronary events that can lead to fatal outcomes. However, despite the fact that different plaque phenotypes may require different treatments, current approaches to prognosis, diagnosis, and classification of acute coronary syndrome do not consider the diversity of plaque phenotypes.

Sodium thiosulphate and progression of vascular calcification in end-stage renal disease patients: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study.

Background: Sodium thiosulphate (NaTS) is mostly used in haemodialysis (HD) patients with calcific uraemic arteriolopathy. This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study assessed the effect of NaTS on progression of cardiovascular calcifications in HD patients.

Methods: From 65 screened patients, we recruited 60 patients with an abdominal aorta Agatston calcification score ≥100.

Change of students interest in psychiatry over the years at school of medicine, University of Belgrade, Serbia.

Introduction: The present study examines how, during the course of medical education, students in Serbia change their attitude and affinity towards choosing psychiatry as their future residency.

Method: Medical students (MS) in the 2nd year (sophomores, n=105), and in the 5th year (seniors, n=75) of the medical school participated in the survey. A 23-item questionnaire was administered to evaluate their attitude towards psychiatry and was compared to their attitude towards other medical specialties (internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, general medicine).

How medical students in their pre-clinical year perceive psychiatry as a career: the study from Belgrade.

Background: Taking the Initiative to evaluate students' affinity toward psychiatry seems to be a global issue and is an essential part of programs to improve the status of the profession. The aim of this study is to explore medical students' attitudes toward psychiatry in comparison to other residencies (internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and general medicine) in the pre-clinical year and to observe which factors influence the creation of these attitudes.

Subjects And Methods: The survey included 114 students of the second year, School of Medicine in Belgrade (academic year 2007/08).
