Plasma ceramides as biomarkers for microvascular disease and clinical outcomes in diabetes and myocardial infarction.

Background: Ceramides have recently been identified as novel biomarkers associated with diabetes mellitus (DM) and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). This study aims to explore their utility in diagnosing microvascular disease.

Methods: This study prospectively enrolled 309 patients from 2018 to 2020 into three groups: healthy controls (Group 1, N = 51), DM patients without acute myocardial infarction (AMI) (Group 2, N = 150), and DM patients with AMI (Group 3, N = 108).

The impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter inhibitors on blood pressure: a meta-analysis and metaregression of 111 randomized-controlled trials.

Objective: Multiple trials on sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT) inhibitors have been performed recently demonstrating blood pressure (BP) reduction benefits in both diabetic and nondiabetic patients. Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effect of different SGLT inhibitors on BP in both patients with and without diabetes mellitus.

Methods: Four electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and SCOPUS) were searched on 4 November 2021 for articles published from 1 January 2000 up to 21 November 2021, for studies evaluating the BP effects of SGLT inhibitors.

Coronavirus-induced myocarditis: A meta-summary of cases.

Background: Myocarditis caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection was proposed to account for a proportion of cardiac injury in patients with COVID-19. However, reports of coronavirus-induced myocarditis were scarce. The aim of this review was to summarise the published cases of myocarditis and describe their presentations, diagnostic processes, clinical characteristics and outcomes.

Effect of coronavirus infection on the human heart: A scoping review.

Background: The global coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has highlighted the importance of understanding the cardiovascular implications of coronavirus infections, with more severe disease in those with cardiovascular co-morbidities, and resulting cardiac manifestations such as myocardial injury, arrhythmias, and heart failure.

Design: A systematic review of the current knowledge on the effects of coronavirus infection on the cardiovascular system in humans was performed and results were summarized.
