Novel Use of AXIOS Stent for Concurrent Management of Achalasia and Esophageal Varices in a Cirrhotic Patient.

AXIOS stents create an anastomotic connection between 2 lumens, facilitating bypass of blockages and strictures as well as drainage of large fluid collections. Historically, AXIOS stents have primarily been used for draining pancreatic fluid collections, with no documented cases of their use within the esophagus until now. In this article, we present a case of a 65-year-old man with cirrhosis admitted for dysphagia.

Hungatella hathewayi bacteremia due to acute appendicitis: A case report and a narrative review.

Hungatella species, including Hungatella hathewayi and Hungatella effluvii, previously identified as part of the Clostridium genus, are anaerobic bacteria primarily residing in the gut microbiome, with infrequent implications in human infections. This article presents the case of an 87-year-old Asian male admitted for a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state with septic shock secondary to Hungatella hathewayi bacteremia originating from acute appendicitis. Remarkably, the bacterium was detected in the blood 48 hours before the emergence of clinical and radiographic evidence of acute appendicitis.

Belly dancer's dyskinesia (BDD) is an unusual neurological disorder characterized by focal dyskinesia that results in involuntary, rhythmic movements of the anterior abdominal wall. This case report comprehensively examines the presentation, potential medication-induced etiology, and therapeutic response of a 64-year-old male diagnosed with schizophrenia. The patient developed BDD-like symptoms resembling hiccups, experiencing recurrent episodes that endured for hours and occurred nearly daily, significantly affecting wakefulness and sleep.
