Background: Provisional stabilization of high-energy tibia fractures using temporary plate fixation (TPF) or external fixation (ex-fix) prior to definitive medullary nailing (MN) is a strategy common in damage control orthopaedics. There is a lack of comprehensive data evaluating outcomes between these methods. This study compares outcomes of patients stabilized with either TPF or ex-fix, and with early definitive MN only, assessing complications including nonunion and deep infection.

We hypothesized there would be high rates of neurovascular injury, compartment syndrome, and complications overall with a higher incidence of neurovascular injury in Moore type III rim avulsion fractures and Wahlquist type C fractures that enter the plateau lateral to the tibial spines.
Methods: Patients who presented to six Level I trauma centers between 2010 and 2021 who underwent surgical fixation for isolated medial tibial plateau fractures were retrospectively reviewed.
Background: As the number of total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) procedures increases, there is a growing interest in improving patient outcomes, limiting costs, and optimizing efficiency. One approach has been to transition these surgeries to an outpatient setting. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to conduct an age-stratified analysis comparing the 90-day postoperative outcomes of primary TSA in the same-day discharge (SDD) and inpatient (IP) settings with a specific focus on the super-elderly.

Methods: One hundred twelve bilateral lateral weight-bearing ankle radiographs were retrospectively evaluated (224 ankles).
Melatonin is an endogenous indoleamine that has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in laboratory models of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer risk has additionally been associated with exogenous factors that interfere with normal pineal secretory activity, including aging, poor sleep, and artificial light at night. Therefore, we aim to expand on the important epidemiological evidence, and to review how melatonin can impede prostate cancer.

Studies have shown that such legislation is successful in reducing the morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) prescribed after certain orthopaedic procedures.
Purpose: (1) To determine if the opioid prescription-limiting legislation in Ohio reduced the cumulative MMEs prescribed after hip arthroscopy without significantly affecting the rates of emergency department (ED) visits, hospital readmissions, and reoperations within 90 days postoperatively, and (2) to assess risk factors associated with increased postoperative opioid dosing.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of bioabsorbable interference screw diameter on the pullout strength and failure mode for femoral tunnel fixation in primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) at time zero fixation using bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autograft in a cadaveric model.
Methods: Twenty-four fresh-frozen cadaveric knees were obtained from 17 different donors. Specimens were allocated to three different treatment groups (n = 8 per group) based on interference screw diameter: 6 mm, 7 mm, or 8 mm biocomposite interference screw.
Background: Most outcome studies of total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) do not discriminate by arthritis etiology. The primary purpose of this study was to compare the complications of TAA between posttraumatic fracture osteoarthritis (fracture PTOA) and primary osteoarthritis (POA).
Methods: Ninety-nine patients who underwent TAA were retrospectively evaluated with a mean follow-up of 3.
Introduction: An understanding of the sagittal plane morphology of the humerus is relevant during surgical fixation of humeral fractures but is not well described in the literature. The purpose of this study was to better characterize the native sagittal plane morphology of the humerus.
Materials And Methods: 170 patients with uninjured full length lateral humerus radiographs were retrospectively evaluated.
Background: The lateral center-edge angle of Wiberg (LCEA) and Tönnis angle (TA) rely on a "horizon" that functions as a reference point for measurements of hip dysplasia on weightbearing anteroposterior pelvis radiographs. There are 3 different horizons that are currently utilized depending on surgeon preference: (1) a line parallel to the radiographic floor (F), (2) a line that connects the inferior portions of the acetabular teardrops (ATs), or (3) a line that connects the ischial tuberosities (ITs). It is imperative to accurately assess the degree of hip dysplasia on initial workup to select the appropriate surgical intervention.
