Background: Endoscopy plays an important role in the management of acute variceal bleeding (AVB) in patients with cirrhosis. This study aimed at determining the optimal endoscopy timing for cirrhotic AVB.

Methods: Patients with cirrhosis with AVB across 34 university hospitals in 30 cities from February 2013 to May 2020 who underwent endoscopy within 24 hours were included in this study.

Background: Gastroesophageal varices is a serious complication of compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD). Primary prophylaxis to reduce the risk of variceal hemorrhage is recommended if high-risk varices (HRV) are detected. We performed this study to compare the accuracy, patients' satisfaction and safety of detection of HRV by detachable string magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (DS-MCCE) with esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) as the reference.

Background: Magnetically controlled capsule gastroscopy (MCCG) is a newly developed non-invasive method designed for gastric examination. Although favorable diagnostic accuracy has been reported, there is little if any data about its ability to diagnose gastric cancer.

Aims: To compare the detectability of superficial gastric neoplasia by MCCG and gastroscopy.

Background And Aims: Magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (MCE) is a novel technique for which there is no agreed gastric preparation. We aimed to determine an optimal standardized gastric preparation regimen.

Methods: 120 patients referred for MCE were randomly assigned to gastric preparation with either water alone (A), water with simethicone (B) or water, simethicone and pronase (C).

Article Synopsis
  • - Capsule endoscopy revolutionized the ability to see the small intestine, but researchers are now exploring its effectiveness for examining the upper gastrointestinal tract.
  • - One key approach is using external magnetic steering to guide a capsule endoscope within the stomach, which could enhance its diagnostic capabilities.
  • - Although initial studies show promise for this method, it still needs to be compared to the conventional gastroscopy, the current standard for diagnosing foregut issues.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease with an unknown cause that can impact any organ, but it's rare for it to affect the gastrointestinal tract, except for the liver.
  • - Symptoms of sarcoidosis can be vague, often leading to misdiagnosis as conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is identified using the Rome II criteria when no organic disease is found.
  • - The case described is unique as it involves a patient who had gastric sarcoidosis presenting with IBS symptoms, and this patient improved after receiving immunosuppressive therapy.
