Article Synopsis
  • Adoption of HPV vaccination in the Asia-Pacific region is low compared to Europe and America, with limited comprehensive reviews on HPV's impact in these areas.
  • A systematic literature review analyzed 254 publications from 2000 to 2022, revealing significant incidence and prevalence rates for cervical, head and neck, anal, penile, and vaginal/vulvar cancers, but found a lack of detailed studies on costs or healthcare resource utilization.
  • The findings indicate a high burden of HPV-related diseases, highlighting the urgent need for better HPV screening, increased education, reduced vaccine hesitancy, and improved data collection to inform health policies.

Context: Prostate cancer is the most common noncutaneous malignancy among men in the USA and Europe. There is no consensus definition of oligometastatic prostate cancer (omPC), which is often considered in two subgroups, synchronous (de novo) and metachronous (oligorecurrent), and may include patients with a low metastatic disease burden.

Objective: To summarize the epidemiology, disease definitions, mortality/survival outcomes, and treatment characteristics in both clinical trial and real-world settings among patients with synchronous, metachronous, and mixed-subtype (ie, synchronous and metachronous or undefined type) omPC, as well as low burden disease states.

Purpose: While the value of individual biosimilars is evident, little is known about the value of a biosimilar portfolio beyond the cost savings between biosimilars and originators. Stakeholders may consider the value of a manufacturer's biosimilar portfolio, especially when negotiating portfolio-based contracts or other rebate programs. However, little is known about what other types of value, in addition to financial benefits, decision-makers perceive regarding a manufacturer with a biosimilar portfolio compared to those without one.

Article Synopsis
  • Pneumococcal diseases lead to high rates of illness and death, especially in developing regions like the Asia-Pacific, where vaccination rates among adults are low.
  • The literature review summarized the disease’s impact and vaccination efforts in specific Asia-Pacific countries by analyzing published studies from 2010 to 2020.
  • Findings show that the burden of pneumococcal disease varies among adult populations, highlighting the need for more research and stronger vaccination programs in areas lacking them.

Introduction: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, often have comorbid anxiety and depression that affects their quality of life (QoL) and management of their IBD.

Areas Covered: A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to identify articles and conference abstracts on comorbid anxiety and depression in IBD patients using MEDLINE® and Embase® (January 2003 - June 2018). The impact of these psychological comorbidities on QoL and economic burden was examined.

In clinical practice, many patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) are either not prescribed guideline-directed medical therapies for which they are eligible or are prescribed therapies at sub-target doses. The objective of this study was to examine the factors associated with not receiving guideline-directed medical therapies or receiving sub-target doses. We conducted a systematic review of articles published between January 2014 and May 2019 that described dosing patterns and factors associated with non-use and sub-target dosing of HFrEF therapies in clinical practice.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic, irreversible disease and a leading cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. In Canada, COPD is the fourth leading cause of death. Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the main reasons for inpatient or outpatient visits after initiating duloxetine or pregabalin.

Methods: Commercially insured patients with fibromyalgia and aged 18-64 years who initiated duloxetine or pregabalin in 2006 with 12-month continuous enrollment before and after initiation were identified. Duloxetine and pregabalin cohorts with similar demographics, pre-index clinical and economic characteristics, and pre-index treatment patterns were constructed via propensity scoring stratification.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess select medication utilization prior to duloxetine initiation among patients with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and musculoskeletal pain associated with osteoarthritis or low back pain.

Methods: Commercially insured duloxetine initiators between January 1, 2007 and March 31, 2010 were identified from a large US administrative claims database. Disease subgroups were constructed based on diagnosis from medical claims during the 12 months prior to duloxetine initiation.

Objectives: Several pharmacologic therapies have been recommended for managing fibromyalgia. However, the factors associated with each treatment initiation have not been well established. This study assessed factors that were associated with the use of duloxetine vs.
