The goal of care of the peritoneal dialysis (PD) patient should be directed at adjusting therapy to maximize the patient's health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Incorporating the routine assessments of HRQOL into the care of PD patients is important and should serve as an essential marker of the adequacy of dialysis and help the dialysis staff design the optimal treatment regimen for each patient. HRQOL is best assessed with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
