The objective of this study was to examine if patterns of resting-state brain activity and functional connectivity in cortical and subcortical regions in patients with early symptomatic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) resemble those of behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). In a cross-sectional design, eyes-closed resting-state magnetoencephalography (MEG) data of 34 ALS patients, 18 bvFTD patients and 18 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HCs) were projected to source-space using an atlas-based beamformer. Group differences in peak frequency, band-specific oscillatory activity and functional connectivity (corrected amplitude envelope correlation) in 78 cortical regions and 12 subcortical regions were determined.

Accurate identification of the underlying cause(s) of cognitive decline and dementia is challenging due to significant symptomatic overlap between subtypes. This study presents a multi-class classification framework for subjects with subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, fronto-temporal dementia and cognitive decline due to psychiatric illness, trained on source-localized resting-state magnetoencephalography data. Diagnostic profiles, describing probability estimates for each of the 6 diagnoses, were assigned to individual subjects.

Subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD), and their functional brain networks are presumably already altered. To test this hypothesis, we compared magnetoencephalography (MEG) eyes-closed resting-state recordings from 29 MCI subjects and 29 healthy elderly subjects in the present exploratory study. Although frequency-specific network analyses have shown that functional brain networks are altered in patients with Alzheimer's disease, the relationships between these frequency-specific network alterations remain largely unknown. Multiplex network analysis is a novel network approach to study complex systems consisting of subsystems with different types of connectivity patterns. Objective: To quantify the electroencephalography (EEG) burst frequency spectrum of preterm infants by automated analysis and to describe the topography of maturational change in spectral parameters.

Methods: Eighteen preterm infants <32weeks gestation and normal neurological follow-up at 2years underwent weekly 4-h EEG recordings (10-20 system). The recordings (n=77) represent a large variability in postmenstrual age (PMA, 28-36weeks).

Purpose: The study's purpose was to identify children's physical activity type using artificial neural network (ANN) models based on uniaxial or triaxial accelerometer data from the hip or the ankle.

Methods: Fifty-eight children (31 boys and 27 girls, age range = 9-12 yr) performed the following activities in a field setting: sitting, standing, walking, running, rope skipping, playing soccer, and cycling. All children wore uniaxial and triaxial ActiGraph accelerometers on both the hip and the ankle.
