The metal alloys used in dentistry are made mainly of nickel (Ni), titanium (Ti), and other elements such as molybdenum (Mo), zirconium (Zr), iron (Fe), tin (Sn), chrome (Cr), carbon (C), copper (Cu) and niobium (Nb) which can release metal ions in unstable environments. The aim of this work was determine the salivary pH before and during orthodontic treatment; evaluate the release of metal ions, mainly Ni and Ti, in urine and saliva using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES); and evaluate the corrosion using Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM). In this study, we selected 35 individuals under orthodontic treatment, from whom saliva and urine samples were collected in 3 stages: (a) basal, (b) at 3 and (c) 6 months after the placement of the fixed appliances.

We report on the geochemical interactions between a synthetic urban runoff (SUR) and the minerals of materials used in a multi-layered column filter (soil, sand, gravel, and tezontle) at the laboratory scale, which mimicked an unvegetated low-impact development (LID) system. After five 8 h infiltration cycles using the SUR, the average concentrations of Pb and Mn decreased slightly at the column outlet, as did HCO, SO, and Na, whereas Mg increased and Cl, Ca, and K were only detected at the outlet. The filter materials were comprised of silicates, Mn-bearing oxides (hausmannite and manganite), carbonates (calcite), chlorides (sylvite), and sulfates (anglesite, lanarkite, barite, and epsomite).

Tthe present work studied the cationic substitution of Y by Bi on the crystal structure of orthorhombic YFeO and its effect over magnetic, dielectric and electric properties of multiferroic yttrium orthoferrite. Stoichiometric mixtures of YO, FeO and BiO were mixed and milled for 5 h using a ball to powder weight ratio of 10:1 by high-energy ball milling. The obtained powders were pressed at 1500 MPa and sintered at 700 °C for 2 h.

In this work, the effects on the preparation of bis(thiourea) cadmium chloride crystals when illuminated with ultraviolet (UV) light at a wavelength of 367 nm using the chemical bath deposition technique are studied comparatively. Two experiments are performed to make a comparison: one without UV light and the other with the aid of UV light. Both experiments are performed under equal conditions, at a temperature of 343 K and with a pH of 3.

Differences on molecular arrangement in two forms of long-chain 1,ω-alkanediols (CHO₂ with = 10, 11, 12, 13) are explained from the analysis of O-H···O hydrogen-bond sequences in infinite chains and the role of a C-H···O intramolecular hydrogen-bond in stabilization of a defect, as well as the inter-grooving effectiveness on molecular packing. GIXD (Glancing Incidence X-ray Diffraction) experiments were conducted on polycrystalline monophasic samples. Diffracted intensities were treated with the multi-axial March-Dollase method to correlate energetic and geometrical features of molecular interactions with the crystalline morphology and textural pattern of samples.
