We herein analyzed all available protein-protein interfaces of the immune complexes from the Protein Data Bank whose antigens belong to pathogens or cancers that are modulated by fever in mammalian hosts. We also included, for comparison, protein interfaces from immune complexes that are not significantly modulated by the fever response. We highlight the distribution of amino acids at these viral, bacterial, protozoan and cancer epitopes, and at their corresponding paratopes that belong strictly to monoclonal antibodies.

Background: Scoring models are useful tools that guide the attending clinician in gauging the severity of disease evolution and in evaluating the efficacy of treatment. There are few tools available with this purpose for the non-human patient, including horses. We aimed (i) to adapt the simplified acute physiology score 3 (SAPS-3) model for the equine species, reaching a margin of accuracy greater than 75% in the calculation of the probability of survival/death and (ii) to build a decision tree that helps the attending veterinarian in assessment of the clinical evolution of the equine patient.

Fever is known to play a role in modulating immune responses to infection, but the potential of febrile temperatures in regulating antigen binding affinity to antibodies has not been explored. Here we investigated this process under in vitro conditions using Isothermal titration calorimetry and ELISA.

Background: The pathogenesis of canine generalized demodicosis is poorly understood but is thought to involve dysfunction of the immune system. Previous studies showed diminished CD4+ T lymphocyte counts in affected dogs, but none has evaluated this subpopulation through resolution of the disease.

Hypothesis/objectives: In this longitudinal study, we tested whether quantification of CD4+ cells, CD8+ cells and the ratio of CD4+ to CD8+ cells are good indicators of immunological status and could be used as biomarkers of treatment efficacy and prognosis.

[Cd(edds)], in particular, is more toxic than free Cd2+ to Aspergillus niger, behaving as a 'Trojan Horse' in the facilitated delivery of the toxic metal into the fungus.

Studies focusing on the equine humoral response are scarce, with a bias towards the pre- and post-parturition mare and its foal. The present study attempted to expand current knowledge by establishing normal ranges for adult horse serum isotypes. Immunoglobulin (Ig) concentrations were obtained by screening 47 horses of various breeds and in different training regimes.
