The liver plays a central role in the hemostatic process as here all clotting factors and their inhibitors are synthetized. Liver damage is commonly associated with variable impairment of hemostasis due to multiple causes: decreased synthesis of clotting and inhibitor factors, decreased clearance of activated factors, hyperfibrinolysis, accelerated intravascular coagulation, quantitative and qualitative platelet defects.

The esophageal scintigraphy is a technique used to evaluate the motility and the clearance of the esophagus. The patients with achalasia of the cardia were evaluated, before treating them with pneumatic dilatation and after. The reason is to evaluate the efficiency of the pneumatic dilatation technique in the treatment of esophageal achalasia.
