Anthranilate and its derivatives are important basic chemicals for the synthesis of polyurethanes as well as various dyes and food additives. Today, anthranilate is mainly chemically produced from petroleum-derived xylene, but this shikimate pathway intermediate could be also obtained biotechnologically.
