Article Synopsis
  • A study presented five cases of fetal death (≥12 weeks) in women with confirmed COVID-19, highlighting a potential link between the virus and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
  • All affected women had mild to moderate COVID-19, were mostly overweight or obese, and showed no significant pre-existing health issues that could contribute to fetal death, with cases occurring between 21-38 weeks of gestation.
  • Histological examination revealed severe placental inflammation in all cases, suggesting that SARS-CoV-2 may directly impact the placenta, leading to fetal demise.
