The Cox6 subunit of cytochrome oxidase (COX) and the Atp9 subunit of the ATP synthase are encoded in nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, respectively. The two proteins interact to form Atco complexes that serve as the source of Atp9 for ATP synthase assembly. To determine if Atco is also a precursor of COX, we pulse-labeled Cox6 in isolated mitochondria of a nuclear mutant with in mitochondrial DNA.

Eukaryotic cells express different Prxs isoforms, which differ in their subcellular locations and substrate specificities. Mitochondrial Prxs are synthesized in the cytosol as precursor proteins containing N-terminal cleavable presequences that act as mitochondrial targeting signals.

They have neurotoxic effects, but the mechanisms by which these toxins affect the nervous system are not fully known. In the present study, male Wistar rats were fed between 21 and 63 days of age with diets that contained fumonisins B+B at 0, 1, and 4 mg/kg.

However, in the last 10 years there have been several reports of azole resistance in and new strategies are needed to combat invasive aspergillosis.

The expression of HSP27 is associated with survival in mammalian cells. In cancer cells, it confers resistance to chemotherapy; in neurons, HSP27 has a positive effect on neuronal viability in models of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

However, propolis has also been used in folk medicine for centuries. Here, we apply the power of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism for studies of genetics, cell biology, and genomics to determine how propolis affects fungi at the cellular level.
