A 57-year-old female with a cerebellar mass.

A 57-year-old female presented with recurrent episodes of nausea and vomit, as well as instability during walking. The patient had a history of uterine leiomyosarcoma, for which she underwent a hysterectomy and oophorectomy 8 months ago. CT scan revealed a calcified mass that was located in the left cerebellar hemisphere which was resected.

Successful, combined long-term treatment of cerebral aspergillosis in a liver transplant patient.

Invasive aspergillosis has long been recognized as one of the most significant and often fatal opportunistic fungal infections in liver transplant recipients. We report a case of a liver transplant recipient who developed an Aspergillus fumigatus brain abscess that produced significant neurologic symptoms. The patient was managed successfully with a combination of surgery and medical treatment with Voriconazole.

Spondylolysis: a review and reappraisal.

The aim of this review was to provide of the current knowledge in pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of spondylolysis based on the authors' experience and the pertinent medical literature. Spondylolysis represents a weakness or stress fracture in one of the bony bridges that connect the upper with the lower facet joints of the vertebra. It is the most common cause of low back pain in young athletes.

Long-term follow-up of a non-infantile desmoplastic ganglioglioma.

Desmoplastic gangliogliomas are mixed cerebral tumors traditionally reported in infants. However, a few non-infantile cases have been documented. A case of a desmoplastic ganglioglioma in a 16-year male is presented.

Lumbar spinal epidural angiolipoma.

Spinal angiolipomas are rare benign tumours most commonly found in the thoracic spine. A case of an extradural lumbar angiolipoma in a 47-year-old female is described. She had a recent history of lower back pain accompanied by sciatica.

Lumbar nerve root compression due to extramedullary hemopoiesis in a patient with thalassemia: complete clinical regression with radiation therapy. Case report and review of the literature.

The authors describe the case of a 24-year-old woman who had a history of beta3-thalassemia and presented with severe symptoms of lumbar nerve root compression due to extramedullary hemopoiesis in the intervertebral foramen. Radiation therapy (2000 cGy in six fractions) was delivered to the mass. The patient's neurological symptoms completely resolved following treatment.

Failure of icodextrin to provide adequate ultrafiltration in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients.

Icodextrin, a starch-derived glucose polymer with an average molecular weight of 20,000 D, has been developed partly as a response to some of the disadvantages of dextrose. It has been suggested that icodextrin solutions are able to provide sustained ultrafiltration (UF) over long dwell times of 8-12 hours in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). In this paper we describe three patients on CAPD: 2 males and 1 female aged 60, 67, and 58 years respectively, duration on CAPD 47, 60, and 15 months respectively.
